In the Bedroom of the Mountain King – Struggling to Care for his Autistic Son // Viddsee Originals

A single father struggles to bring up his autistic son, amid fears of his neighbours’ biased judgement against them.

Phinn is a young boy who falls within the autism spectrum. He runs around his neighbourhood, befriending community cats and collecting cardboard – the materials he needs to build his ‘castle’ and safe haven in his bedroom.

Phinn’s father, Edward, struggles to raise him by himself – he’s gripped with fears and paranoia about his son’s future, and how others might view his son. He attempts to prepare his son for the world – but his fears over how society can be judgmental and uncompassionate, blinds him to other possibilities.

When Phinn’s continual efforts to interact with others are met with backlash from Edward, Phinn starts to spiral in confusion. Is Edward’s way of preparing Phinn correct?
