HFY is a story/series that takes a “human element” in either humanity or an “other” (race/species or object) that exists in a “setting” (future or other world/universe) with varying levels of culture, technology, society and history that help show in some shape or form the potential good or bad for humanity’s race/culture. In These stories Humans are often referred to as Human, Humanity, Deathworlder, Hellwolder in reference to the human planet of origin , Earth. This planet is seen by most of the universe as a place where only death and chaos can survive.

Humans Are Space Orcs (HASO) or Humans Are (Fantasy Race) Are used as a guide when writing.
In these Stories we normally View humans like the other races view orcs in a Fantasy Novel. We (Humans) share the same characteristics and personalities as orcs. Humans are normally treated as the outsiders and barbarians. Humans tend to be underestimated as well in these stories. Unlike Humanity Feck Yea , these don’t always put a positive spin on humanshumanity sometimes looking at the darker side of human and humanity from the perspective of aliens.

Amusingly LASERS can cause explosions, we are only really now reaching the power density required on Earth but it can be done, you dump enough energy into the material that the resultant vaporization effect has a shockwave. Hell we are using LASER ignition in a number of fusion experiments for that very reason.

This story presents real life science as its base but makes lasers dodgeable at a range where kinetics are effective…

I like to think the Necron Tesla weapons use lasers as a conduit.
After a few thousand years of practice, we became quite good at throwing rocks.
"You might as well be throwing rocks"

Movies are always making sinsational explosions.
I remember the first time see a grenade go off and just displayed air with a little dust around it no fire or light.
Then in Kuwait, Iraq and Afghanistan seeing a grenade attached to a half full can of gasoline wrapped in det cord then thrown stairs at insurgent below in basements. Now that was a Hollywood type set of explosions.
Last line was a nice touch.
If brute force isn’t working, apply more.

People argue about what the greatest weapon is. It's rock. It always has been and it always will be. Every weapon we have made is just a different way to throw rocks harder and faster. It just depends on how leathal you want your rock to be.
enough photons and its lees a wave length and more a solid thing only visible in one direction , just like with kinetics.. excellent to rob offensive stuff of its energy and if you pack enough energy in its motions splendid hammers to supress foes into cracking , or to finish a wounded foe by delivering a heap of matter into a tight space with no place for all its kinetic energy to go ^^
