HIMARS became the MVP of Ukraine’s fall 2022 counterattacks and has maintained its cherished status in the time since. But now a new weapon called Storm Shadow is upending the conflict once again. But why are HIMARS and Storm Shadow so powerful against Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. This video looks at the history of HIMARS, Ukraine’s HIMARS strategy, and how Storm Shadow acts as a super-charged version of the system.

  1. The UK doesn't have the export version of Storm Shadow in its arsenal. That's why the UK got Ukraine to agree not to target locations in Russia because it has a stand-off attack range of 300 miles. As for cost, it doesn't matter. These missiles were paid for years ago and the next generation replacement is already in development. Hardly any of these weapons are ever used in battle so for once they're getting used for what they were designed for: to disrupt Russia's ability to invade other European countries.

  2. You missed one major point why it's extremely hard to shoot down storm shadow. It's not just flying low, it's also low observable. And with low observable I'm talking about a radar cross section of between one and three square centimeters.
Yes, it's easier to observe a medium sized rock which you're throwing out of a window by radar than this missile!
Of course that doesn't mean that it's invincible, however radar based air defense systems can't really detect it that well.

  3. The HiMARS was biolt to support the US Army's Light units, such as the Airborne and Stryker Brigades….
The MLRS Id STILL Valid, but it is designed to operate with the Army's "Heavy' forces…. Abrams, Bradleys,etc….. it's built on the Bradley chassis and automotive systems.

  6. You must be pretty stupid to assume the Russian military is smart and anticipates on improving its failures.
That's the problem with intelligent people, William. They assume others think and anticipate.
No William, try to see and consider how Russians handle and keep making mistake after mistake. Now who is stupid assuming they learn from their mistakes? Who William, who?

  7. There should be no restrictions on the use of weapons against the Russian aggression in Ukraine . Ukraine heroes fighting a war with weapons that are restricted in their use so as to not antagonize Putin . This kind of thinking is flawed as Putin's killers are not restricted in their crimes against the Ukranian people. They torture and kill civilians without conscience most of Russian military is made of murderers and thieves from Russian prisons.

  8. "Not a single HIMARS was destroyed"? Why spreading pure propaganda? There is no need for that. Be more honest! There are several videos of HIMARS systems being destroyed with kamikaze drones. The Russians have already adapted and have very effective counters. One weapon system is never the "wonder weapon". That is how the famous Germans during the 1940s were thinking. That time should have passed long time ago… Apparently: not.

  9. I think the thing that all these videos miss is that the US and allies don't need a Ukrainian total victory for a US victory. Russia depleted military for 4% of US defense budget, Europe no longer reliant on Russian energy, Russia a pariah state and Nato again relevant is a US victory. It doesn't really matter where Ukraine is able to establish it's final border.

  10. We need to stop messing around. We know the Russians already trying to control their country. We supposed to support the country but we’re doing it but we’re gonna have to step across the border because that’s the only way you gotta stop Russia.
