Has the Supreme Court given Trump the power to be a dictator? | The News Agents USA

The majority decision by America’s Supreme Court to grant Trump almost complete immunity from actions taken whilst in office make him – in the words of one dissenting justice, “a king above the law”.

What are the implications of this ruling on Trump’s future trials?

On his behaviour if he wins a second term?

And on America’s trust in the highest court in the land?

Later, the Democrats find themselves, like their presidential candidate at times, frozen, in the aftermath of that TV debate. Will anyone close to Biden dare to suggest he pull out of the race? We hear from those who have come closest.

  1. American right wingers say they hate "communism" and yet they applaud Trump wanting to use exactly the same MO and anticipate a despot taking permanent control of the government, controlling the press, locking up political opponents, ignoring well established climate science etc with glee.

  2. This just reinforces the fact that the Americans must vote against a dictatorship. It does not matter who the Democratic has as the candidate, it’s beyond that now.

  3. Thanks @The News Agents for sharing this crucial video! The Supreme Court recently issued a ruling in Trump v. United States, a case concerning the indictment of former President Donald Trump for his actions related to the Capitol attack on January 6, 2021. The Court's decision highlighted the balance between a President's immunity from prosecution for official acts and the need to uphold constitutional duties. The majority opinion granted Trump presumptive immunity for his official acts, prompting dissent from Justices Sotomayor, Kagan, and Jackson, who argued against granting former Presidents unchecked immunity, emphasizing the importance of accountability and the rule of law.

*Presumptive immunity: A legal assumption that a person is immune from prosecution unless proven otherwise.

  4. The MAGA talking point began in 2020, so noone could be blamed for dismissing it in and of itself, but there's no question that Biden is wrong. He either genuinely believes that he's the best person to beat Trump, in spite of all the evidence to the contrary, and with a real arrogance, or he's simply putting his feelings above the country.

Either way, he should not be in this race.

  5. Not sure why people are surprised about the supreme court ruling. Trump ‘bought’ this ruling years ago by electing the right people.
America is morally corrupt, and has been so for a long time.

  6. Why do you not realise that this is for all Presidents going forward not just President Trump. Any President can still be impeached and indicted for crimes that are not part of his official duties.

  7. Rude awakening , a reflection of poor journalism over money and power , our democracies have been bought and paid for over my lifetime by the shamelessly rich , the consequences are right here right now , the antidote is to make our democies immune from filthy rotten cash .

  8. The candidates are irrelevant. This is an election about a party that wants a king and a party that wants democracy. Project 2025 or project 1776. It’s that simple.

  9. John, I respect your analysis of the global political scene, but, what on Earth did you mean by "…if Donald Trump suddenly realises…" ? – the extra immunity may have caught even him off-guard, but he knew he was going to be anointed by the "Supreme Court" – we can only pray that he's not elected. I'm praying, and I'm an atheist.

  10. So, what on earth are you trying to achieve?
Biden is old, so is Trump. Biden's team may well be more beneficial to America than Trump and his team.
Undermining Biden seems like a fairly bad idea at this stage in the process – but, hey, you do you.

  11. Joke post aside? This is what the decline of the American Republic/Empire looks like. Next is for either their army/military forces to become disbanded or disparate, or for a significant loss or stalemate in an inter-national conflict (ie. war). They really shouldn’t let high-school kids read history books.

  12. so what defines an official act? is it anything that the President does in an Executive Order? is it anything he says he wants to do in a X post? What is an official act?

  13. This panic is based solely on the assumption that Trump will actually win the election.
Whilst there are certainly some MAGA cultists who will STILL vote for this lunatic, I cannot believe that ALL of them will. Moreover, it must surely be even LESS likely that others will be persuaded to cross over to the Republican ticket and vote for a dictatorship.

  14. To understand how crazy US democracy is Jon and Emily should watch the video by MeidasTouch “Justices commit perjury before impunity ruling”. It just shows how the justices will say anything to get onto the Supreme Court, but once there, vote the opposite way, with virtual immunity themselves. They not only did it on immunity for the president but on Roe v Wade as well. The hearing on their selection by the Senate is worthless as they will say anything to get selected, because with a 2/3 majority to impeach and remove them, they know they are totally safe with a lifetime appointment. Even taking large “gifts” is acceptable that in any other sensible genuine democracy would not be allowed. It’s not just the Republicans, that are responsible for this crazy situation, yes they are this time, but every President looking back mostly appoints judges and administrators mainly based on their political views rather than ability or honesty. The US doesn’t have a genuine, functioning and honest democracy as the Jon Stewart video just before the debate last week explains. However the UK, with the House of Lords and first past the post elections is certainly not perfect.

  15. An act of a President should be defined as something the average American can not do. The average American files a tax return, so that is not an official act of a President.

  16. Out of all the nonsense, look at the state of America and wider global politics under Trump than under Biden. Trump has been blatantly targeted ever since he came out running in the 2016 election and he called out the mainstream media for what they are, liars and snakes.
