Of course this isn't canon, though it would be cool if it was… But there's multiple pieces of evidence that prove that they have control over their own safe mode. They turn it on for performance so they don't get spotted murdering everybody, and for night time, when people get stuck inside, they turn it off. They need a late night dinner.
But if this comic were truly realistic, Gregory would've ended up eaten in the first minute.
That would've been such a good mechanic. Instead of destroying them to improve Freddy, you could call them for their own talents. Roxy to see stuff, Monty to break stuff, Chica to lure things away, and Freddy to carry to around, maybe bring you through places off limits for humans.
I wonder how they are gonna handle Monty since he has that leaping ability and his tail so it's gonna be pretty hard for them to get close especially with his anger issues…
