  1. Glen, you are a Professional. I had a sense since watching your series from the beginning, that you had a terrific background. Your recap on the cameras and headsets was terrific. I have notifications saved to catch your flights. Blue skies

  2. This video is a prime example of what I enjoy most about both of your channels. You started off by deflating the haters and letting them know that you DO know what you are doing. The content here and on the cooking side is excellent, but I always get a smile from listening to you address those items before anyone has a chance to attack. Keep up the good work, and maybe see if you can get some reimbursement from the Canadian tourism folks. My wife and I will be planning a long weekend trip from Detroit to old town Ottawa based on one of your recent vlogs.

  3. Thanks Glen for sharing your experiences with these Camera's . Been looking for a small camera for backpacking/winter snowshoe camping. You've opened my eyes, although I'm still not sure what I'll get to experiment a bit with.

  4. Super handy evaluation. Thanks for taking the time! I wonder if DJI will ever catch up in this space. Their drones have really nice sensors now, but it doesn't seem to translate into the rest of the lineup.

  5. You should reach out to Premier 1 Driver who had problems with Go Pros and he talked about it on his flights. (Beechcraft premier Jet). He revealed that a Sales Rep contacted him with a Goodie Bag of new models and firmware. He is exclusive Go Pros and he didn’t do a overall Market Review like you. Do reach to him.

  6. Great video. No Garmin VIRBs? I wonder how those would stack up against the 9 or 11.
From the video I've seen, the 9 is just fine. Most of us here on YouTube are not professional videographers (although some are) and I would say that most of us are here to see the airplane, your flying technique and some of the shots from the airplane. The 9 provides 'more than enough', so let's go with them.

Thanks for taking the time to do this exhaustive, and I'm sure it was exhausting, testing and comparison for us. Fly safe!

  7. Have you considered a dashcam, at least for some type of shots? I know that they have their own issues, particularly when you are trying to do high quality, but it might be OK for some things

  8. The right camera for the job… It's interesting that there isn't an actually "pro" camera like this. It would be bigger and heavier than a GoPro, and something like US$2k or maybe more. But it seems that there is a market for an "action-ish" camera with a bigger, better sensor and better reliability than GoPro. A few years ago, I didn't think I'd ever say this, but maybe DJI would be the company to do it? Would it be crazy to consider something like a Sony compact camera in an enclosure? Also, thanks for confirming my non-pro understanding of "why 23.976 not 24 fps?"

  9. Really love both your channels. I am curious if you've had any experience with Sony. Their DSC-RX0 I and II both seemed like great action cameras focused on cinema-like quality. Note that these comments come from a novice. 🙂

  10. Wow, I appreciate your efforts to find a useful camera system. Your experience is unmatched or not shared on YouTube.
Yes, always fly the airplane! We have too many stories about people who were overwhelmed by electronics and ended up in a national database.
Thx for bringing us along. As a type 1 diabetic for 48 yrs, food or drinking shows don’t work for me😊😊😊

  11. Haha can't think of anyone on YouTube the last 10 or 15 years who is more qualified for a camera review than you. I know alot of creators. If you wanted you could start a channel on camera reviews and have many cameras sent to you free of charge for unbiased review hands down. Not sure if these cameras were bought by you or provided. Go Pro seems to be the bane of many YT creators presently with various issues including shut down issues. When you have to play with something that hard to make it work it's not worth having. It detracts and complicates your original task and success.

  12. It was a delight to watch such a review, of which cameras suit your requirements.
This is such stark contrast with most YT reviews, which are rarely barely more than listing the features from the manufacturer and few hours of limited use.

  13. Great presentation Glen. I know nothing about cameras, nor do I use cameras. I watched the whole video and listened to every word though. That's how good your delivery is. Bravo.

  14. Great review. I don’t know much about cameras and normally am not that interested in them but I found this review interesting and really informative. It gave me further insight into the challenges you and other YouTube aviation presenters face. Cheers. Happy New Year

  15. I’ve seen some videos about the DJI Action 3 that indicates there’s perhaps some teething issues that might be improved. One person I saw reached out to DJI about the focus issue and eventually got it replaced with a unit that could focus properly close up – so perhaps there was a manufacturing fault that has been fixed. Perhaps it might be worth trying to contact DJI and see if swapping that might improve that. The new firmware released in the last couple of weeks with 10 bit mode apparently has also improved image processing compared to older firmware.

  16. I’ve been a commercial photographer and director for +30 years and a pilot for +25. I appreciate your insight and the extensive review! I’ve used the DJI and GoPros while flying for quite some time and had the exact same results as you! Spot on. Thanks!

  17. I wanted to say hi from Minnesota. I've been enjoying your cooking channel, and just found you here. My Dad was a private pilot…soloed in a J-3 in 1953, the year before I was born. I have that same cap from several years ago at Oshkosh when the Lancaster paid a visit :). Happy New Year !

  18. Great Video! Thanks for sharing. Very interesting hearing your take on the different types of cameras. Have you ever used the Garmin Verb? If so, I’m curious what your opinion on it would be.

  19. I’d love to be able to record some of my flying…but I’m not at all knowledgeable about what works and what doesn’t (thanks for the inside track!)
I’d love to see how you (and another of our Canadian flying content creators) do your editing. Wonderful video, even though I’m not ready to drop a couple grand on a few GoPros yet!

  20. I am not into making videos of any sort but I did find your evaluation of the cameras very interesting. I think that is because you just did not take them out of the box ans make a 30 second clip. They were used many times over a long period and the faults came out. As a professional cinematographer I respect your opinion better than most You-tubers. Keep up the great work on all your channels. Fly safe.

  21. Super interesting to hear your thoughts on this… that said, doesn't SpaceX use GoPros in their rockets? I think there was a picture of a housing they were put in to make them survive. It it possible that you're having temperature issues more than firmware issues? A lot of electronics have a lower floor in terms of temperature.

  22. Thanks for the review. I’ve found that SCUBA is another environment where filmography necessarily comes second and reliable, simple film equipment beats glitchy or complicated for any sort of image quality. Just swap out wing mount points with waterproof shells and it’s the same story.
