The Creation of the World
“In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was formless, empty, and covered in darkness. Then God said, ‘Let there be light,’ and there was light. He separated the light from the darkness, calling the light ‘day’ and the darkness ‘night.’ On the second day, God created the sky to separate the waters above from the waters below. On the third day, He gathered the waters to reveal dry land and made plants and trees grow, filling the earth with life. On the fourth day, God created the sun, moon, and stars to give light to the earth and mark days and seasons. On the fifth day, He filled the seas with fish and the skies with birds. On the sixth day, He created animals on land and, finally, mankind in His image, giving them authority over all creation. God saw that everything was good. On the seventh day, He rested, blessing and sanctifying it as a day of rest.”
