Hope I am wrong but looks like equipment 2.0 but with a different name. Seems liek they dropped the ball a little bit an missed the opportunity to add some legitimate counter play to the game. We have different unit types that are suppsoed to counter one another but it never stops anybody from smashing their max Nev Joan into your Infantry and cutting through it like butter. New system just seems like stat sticks and nothing else. Also I agree, MAKE TANKS GREAT AGAIN 2023. I get we want to speed up massive fights and territory wars in KvK but I think there are other ways than adding new commanders that just deal more skill dmg. Every new commander they release is just more stats and more skill dmg. We need to make tanky commanders actually feel tanky and not just be meat shields with 0 chance of trading positive (pakal harold, AT exceptions). Commanders like Pakal with no Harold, Takeda, Richard, and other tanks are just garbage. Also I think they should revisit the talent trees and give players more options rather than just being 1 or 2 builds and nothing else. All this aside, I am happy to add another layer of customization to my marches. Hopefully the update ends up being a W
I mean, it kinda depends on the situation, I imagine that especially on kvk 1 with a charles martel richard I combo the 2% damage reduction can be useful, of course the meta has always been "do as much damage as possible" but something to note is that on kvk if they were partially intelligent it could be a whole different game, making players unable to advance until they destroy the frontline formation, it could easily go to "use commanders for attack here and here, in this place we want to resist as much as possible so take the 2% damage reduction, put towers to damage the enemy and push…" and well the 5% march speed can be useful when targeting recolectors of the enemy, who will mostly have the 10% gathering speed.
Overall if they apply this stuff in a good way then it's gonna be great, we need to see the final implementation thought.
P.D: It's gonna be a pay2win system and we all knew it, they never work on something that actually gives a benefit to free2play players, however at least in this update there is some chance to make free2play players more useful.
The arch formation gives 5% attack. The wedge gives 5% skill damage. From many testing I have done myself and seen from others a 5% skill damage increase has about the same effect as adding 10% of attack stats (On a high skill damage march, in kvk with high crystal tech). Looking at the current meta that highly revolves on high skill damage commanders, I think it’s safe to say that the wedge formation by miles outclasses the others.

yea, definitely the right time to stop playing this game. too big a gap between pay to win and f2p. if someone has more power then 5% skill damage is greater than 5% of players with less power. i think only imperium kingdom should stay and play this stupid game

So when exactly are these formations supposed to be in game I haven't seen them yet
If they wanted to make the formation system interesting they should've made formations based on troop types. And like you said, formations that counter one another, like it works in the real military world.
