Evolution of TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES – 40 Years Explained | CARTOON EVOLUTION

CARTOON EVOLUTION #42 / POP CULTURE EVOLUTION #9 – TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES (TMNT)

I take a look at the history and evolution of the TMNT. Launching in 1984 as a small, independent comic – Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles quickly exploded! With a globally popular cartoon series, action figure line, and live-action movie trilogy in only a matter of a few years, Turtlemania took the world by storm – spawning dozens of re-boots, spin-offs and franchise instalments in the following decades.

In this video, we’ll trace his evolution from 1945 to now. To do so, we’ll trace their evolution from 1984 to now. To do so, we’ll touch on their design and thematic changes over 4 decades of comics, series, movies, and merchandise. Here’s my look at the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles through the years!

  1. This was very interesting, educational, and entertaining for me. Excellent! I've been a TMNT fan my whole life. My favorite TMNT series is the '87 series with the 2012 series a close second. I'm only just now watching the 2003 series and am enjoying it so far. My favorite TMNT movie is Secret Of The Ooze with Out Of The Shadows a close second. I enjoy all of the movies, though. I haven't seen any of Rise Of The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series after episode 1 nor its Netflix movie. I plan to see Mutant Mayhem soon.

  2. So far I feel like the franchise hasn't had a true failier with it's animated shows, and or it's animated movies really. The original is a massively influential classic, the 2003 and 2012 shows are both fantastic in their own ways, and while I've not seen the 2018 series it does sound like it turned out better than many of us initially feared. Even the 2007 film I remember thinking was alright, and from the look of it the Batman crossover and the new film are also both really solid.
The major point of struggle always seems to be live action, with basically only the original movie being unanimously liked and all others being either mixed or outright hated

  3. The ninja turtles have always had such a massive presence in my life since 2007 but I didn’t start to really get into it until 2012. Now reading the original comics it’s such a wild difference to me. However I can see how the comic became what we know

  4. Legacy franchises are an interesting one to tackle. Especially those that reinvent themselves with each new series and have done so with a regular frequency in multiple media. Makes it hard to fail after so long as people can say if they don't like one they can check out the other adaptations. Kind of makes me wander what would have happened if Masters of the Universe and She-Ra had kept up the same frequency in multiple media. Although they look to be returning in more recent years with a well liked by most Netflix She-Ra not long ago and two MOTU series at the same time as each other with one aimed at adults and another kids. Something they may have taken from TMNT playbook with having the kid shows and comics at the same time as more wide audience movies and comics

  5. I watched parts of the 2012 TMNT but I grew up with the 2003 TMNT and they have been my favorites ever since. The music, characters, and storylines are simply so vast and entertaining. It lends itself to full rewatches very well.
