  1. Loved the Filmscene shout-out! It's a great independent theater in Iowa City that was a highlight of my time going to school there the last couple years. It gave me the opportunity to see so many smaller films I wouldn't have otherwise seen.

  2. Crazy that the summer movie season is already nearly upon us. I'm going to look up the release schedule and pick my top 10 now so that I'm not influenced by your picks next week. Of course, Barbie is going to be number 1, so it's just a matter of picking 2 through 10. Unless Barbie and Oppenheimer merge to form Boppenheimer, which will be unstoppable, and could ignite the cinema-going atmosphere with a chain reaction that makes all the money.

  3. I used to live in & near Iowa City. It's sad to see both the Englert stop showing movies and the AMC chain in the downtown mall close, but I'm happy to hear the folks around FilmScene have kept up the movie business in Iowa City. Thanks for spotlighting these small town theaters!

  4. I do enjoy theaters. But the fact Evil Dead Rise did so well, yet it's already set a May 9 digital release date is making me decide to just wait and watch it at home. Can't justify the cost of a theater ticket and concessions, plus the travel both ways (I use public transit) for a movie I can watch at home less than 3 weeks after release

  5. Anyone who is a fan of theatre and Ghibli should go see Spirited Away Live on Stage that has 2-3 more scheduled dates in US movie theaters. It was detailed and adapted the story into the theatre medium as well as possible imo

  6. Hi Dan! I was wondering if you'd be doing anything this year to mark the 20th anniversary of Return of the King/the Lord of the Rings trilogy! It be wonderful to hear your take on how these films impacted current day cinema.

  7. Hey Dan, I think it would be a cool idea for next few weeks on Chart with Dan! to compare the domestic charts between The Super Mario Bros. Movie and Incredibles 2. It's a really interesting comparison right now, and I feel that's where Mario's ultimate box office goal should be to see if it can take the throne as the highest grossing domestic animated film.

Thanks for uploads as always ✌🏼.

  8. Great Charts episode Dan! I didn’t know that “Evil Dead Rise” was suppose to go straight to HBOMAX (or “Smile” to Paramount+). Thank you for always keeping me informed with all the entertainment news.
