Even If You Don’t Want To

Ben is getting our fall garden crops planted up today in the greenhouse. Even though none of these things sound good at the moment, we will be so thankful when we are able to eat fresh greens in the winter.

Today’s music, in order (available through Epidemic Sound http://bit.ly/2Mt3tXm ):

  1. My Mama used to say that she had to peel 5 lbs of potatoes to get one good plate to serve with dinner. We ate them raw and then cooked as soon as they came out of the frying pan. Good memories.

  4. Great video! Love wating Sister help and hold your hand walking, yelling Grow! Grow! and digging that hole and planting. So sweet. Stole my heart! Love seeing all the family. You are so blessed. Love seeing the boys and their talents and helping and working in the garden barefoot. Good stuff. And you and your wife are amazing! 🙂 Many prayers for you and yours and the homestead. 😮 the tip on the chips!!! Awesome! Will give that a try!! What kind of batter do you guys use?

  5. Frying in lard has a lot to do with the great taste of your chips. Are you old enough to have had McDonald's French fries when they fried them in beef tallow? The best in the world.

  6. do you want to make meatloaf and your kids are turning up their noises or you just don't have the time to bake a meatloaf? You might like to try this instead I usually use what ever cheese and ground meat I have on hand:

    No DOUGH PIZZA

1 lb. ground beef – I like to add 1/4 to 1/2 lb. ground sausage or Italian sausage

    1 cup rolled oats

    1 tsp. salt

    1/4 tsp. dried oregano

    14 tsp. pepper

1 pkg. (6 oz.) mozzarella cheese, cut in small triangles – I use shredded and also any cheese we like instead

    1/2 cup chopped onion

4 tsp. parsley – i leave out or put in basil, thyme & some dried parsley

    1 egg

    1 can tomato sauce

Combine beef/meat, oats, onion, salt, oregano, pepper, egg, parsley, and 1/2 of the tomato sauce.

Press meat mixture evenly into a 12 inch round pizza pan or onto a cookie sheet.

Broil 5 inches from heating element for 7 minutes. Spread remaining tomato sauce on meat and top with cheese. Bake 1 minute or until cheese melts.

I am going to do this Friday night using my roll/package of Italian sausage that was $2.99 for a 16 oz. roll last week at Raley's.

  7. Homestead kids learn early and are amazing and willing helpers from an early age. I’m so impressed with all your children. You guys are doing a great job as parents! ❤Buggy is just absolutely adorable and it’s such fun watching her grow and learn.

  8. Please let us know how the ranch dressing was made. Chips look fantastic. I'm wondering if the chips get soft if they sit for a bit? If so I have learned to put the potato fries or chips in cold water and get the starch out. This works great for crispy fried breakfast potatoes and I'm thinking it would probably work well for the chips.
