We continue our completionist walkthrough of XCOM 2 War of the Chosen in this episode on Legend difficulty with Ironman mode turned on! With the last mission barely completed, it’s time to take care of an ADVENT Retaliation mission. Anyone with a rank worth mentioning has to come, including our new Grenadier Jay “QT” Linde. The mission then faces us off with unpredictable Chryssalids and forces us to deploy a mimic beacon to save the day – with unexpected success!

In this completionist walkthrough, we attempt to beat XCOM 2 War of the Chosen on Legend difficulty with Ironman mode turned on. On Legend difficulty, the hardest difficulty setting in XCOM 2, enemies will be deadlier, more numerours and harder to kill, while we unlock new technologies slower and have to pay more to purchase useful items. To make things even harder, we also play with Ironman mode turned on, making all of our decisions permanent. Ironman mode prevents us from reverting back to an earlier save file if things go wrong, so if we mess up, we will have to live with the consequences. Paired together, Legend difficulty and Ironman mode provide by far the toughest challenge in XCOM 2 – but they also offer the most intense gameplay experience.
Since this is a completionist walkthrough of XCOM 2 War of the Chosen, we will also focus on unlocking almost all achievements in the game. The only achievements that will not be covered in this walkthrough are those relating to the (now defunct) multiplayer mode as well as the “The Few and the Proud” and the “Exquisite Timing” achievement. The first would severely limit the number of community creations that this series could feature and the latter would require us to quickly rush through the game, likely resulting in missing a lot of achievements and defeating the purpose of a completionist playthrough.
This XCOM 2 Walkthrough covers the complete XCOM 2 Collection, including all downloadable content and expansions. We will not only play through the XCOM 2 base game, but also the War of the Chosen expansion featuring new factions, missions and enemies, the Alien Hunters DLC featuring powerful new aliens, the Shen’s Last Gift DLC featuring a new soldier class, and the Anarchy’s Children and Resistance Warrior Pack DLCs with additional soldier customization options. Additionally, War of the Chosen, Alien Hunters and Shen’s Last Gift all introduce additional achievements for us to unlock.
All customizable characters in this series are made by the Pete Complete community. Every soldier will be named after and designed by a Patreon supporter. To find out how to get your name into the series as well, check out this video (disregard the deadline): https://youtu.be/-BSLYzyrlPY
XCOM 2 is a turn-based action strategy game developed by Firaxis Games and the sequel to XCOM Enemy Unknown (and its Enemy Within expansion). It includes new units for XCOM and the aliens, new gameplay mechanics, more character customization options and a deepter tactical layer. However, XCOM 2 does not pick up where Enemy Unknown left off: Instead, the game assumes the player’s failure to defeat the alien invaders in the first game and therefore begins twenty years after the events of XCOM Enemy Unknown on an Earth ruled by the aliens. Always on the run, the remnant XCOM forces must find a way to rise from the ashes, expose the insidious truth behind the occupation and eliminate the alien threat once and for all.

I really dig all the little storytelling notes that go into some of the rumors; the fact that Central clearly goes to investigate some of these with a squad paints a picture. Who from the team was asking Bradford to blow on the dice before winning it all?
Does anyone here want to se pete play miasma chronicles?
Mimic bacon MVP
So fast another episode
Mimic beacon MVP!!!
Fantastic as always
Everybody talking about the mimic beacon, but QT and Mahoney put in work with those demolitions.
The mimic beacon saved me so many times that it became a top priority to research when I went for my legend play through
Skabalooo!!! A new episode already!!
I love the smell of plasma burned chryssalid early in the morning. Smells like… victory.
My suggestions:
Plasma weapons for Mox, specialists, psionics and sharpshooters.
Reduce Avatar Project progress for the next covert op.
Recruiting another ranger, sharpshooter and maybe skirmisher might be worth considering.
Well played as always, keep it up Commander.
Always an awesome gameplay! Thanks for the video!
Cilvilians were lucky that Advent came for our soldiers but enemy did not expect the toughest of them all – the Mimic Beacon!
😀
Is there a way to see the roster of character soldiers? There have been so many added it’s hard to keep track of their lore.
24:16 Plasma weapons… make the cut… heh.
Great xcom gameplay Pete, thanks again
At least it was just one Chryssalid. One time in XCOM 1 my mimetic skin ranger had eyes on a Sectopod and its drones only for them literally teleport during the alien activity phase and end up right on top of the rest of my squad
Pete, if your health allows, could you do two Xcom episodes a week? We are pretty far from the end still and with this pace we will never get to killing all chosen before 2025.
That or double mission episodes. Where you'd play 2 tactical mission an episode instead of one.
Meme beacon getting missed by a chrysalid will never not be funny.
I swear to god, you know when to upload. I don't know if its weird but i enjoy the way you talk. Also, watching your vids complete stress reliever 🤜🏽
20:00 yay!!!
Thank you so much Pete!!
You're the absolute Best! ❤
well done!
Julian dissapointed me in this mission, too much Hits 😂
Pete, as long as you keep putting out great videos like this, I will never not be happy with you.
chrysalids are unhinged
I'll definitely be voting for the mimic beacon.
1:30 "… if we beat her in a game of dice. Although Central refused to blow on the dice, luck was still on our side, …" lol
Julian repaired his hacked systems. Glad to see him shredding aliens
I wonder what new games will you put on the next series?
RIP Mimic Beacon hologram, we will remember you ❤️
everytime i see chrysalids in this game i get ptsd from that one mission in the previous game
The Last Reserve Soldiers: With all the frontline soldiers tired or on missions far away it's our time to shine!
Commander Pete: And the MVP is without a doubt for the inert mimic beacon!
XCOM!
A mission with chrisalids without taking a single point of damage?
You should retire happily on that and uninstall the game.
Love this series and I've never played XCOM. Nice work Pete
Is it possible for a Mimic Beacon to be MVP?
I think that Mimic beacon deserves a posthumous promotion.
Julian's hit ratio: 4 gun hits, 2 gun miss, 1 strike hit, 0 strike miss.
Damn, he's outperforming himself
Great episode! Eager to see the plasma weaponry! Mimic beacon MVP xD
8 enemies appear against 6 inexperienced soldiers, 5 enemies were killed. Next turn another 3 enemies appeared, but were then taken down to none, all with a flawless mission rating!? On legendary Ironman! Pete, if ailiens ever did invade as shown in the game, you could lead me off of a cliff and I would follow. o7
4:12 What the fuck was this guys problem with Julian
The Crysallid's burrow is likely triggering when the civilians run around, and since they aren't proper overwatch targets, fuckery ensues.
@10:40 ish "I'm as graceful as a gazelle", sure.. x)
Was cracking up when on the summary screen the mimic beacon was crowned “most under fire” 😂
Chrysalids can smell pheromones, right? The point is you can never hide from them?
Was I the only one who had a Freudian twitch when Pete said, "the cut," before the end of the video? 😂
