EU agrees on Russian oil price cap: Will it make a difference? | DW News

European Union countries have agreed to put a cap on the price of Russian oil – currently at 60 dollars a barrel. The move aims to reduce Moscow’s ability to fund its war in Ukraine with revenue from petroleum exports.
The EU joins the United States and other G7 nations in sanctioning Russian oil, which recently traded at about 65 dollars a barrel. The measure will come into effect on Monday, and intensifies Western pressure on the Kremlin over its invasion of Ukraine. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said the price cap would have a wide range of implications.

  1. Where is the free market we talk about? If Russia also applies a floor oil price. For example, any country that imposes a oil price cap, or provides weapons to Ukraine, must buy oil at a floor minimum price of 150 USD/barrel. Or any country that wants to buy Russian oil for use is OK, but if it is bought to resell to the EU or US, it has to buy a floor limit price of 150. OPEC also has to sell a floor minimum price of 150 or more to countries hostile to Russia. If Russia did support a certain country in Middle East, if having war at the lifeline of the world's oil transportation, it would destroy the whole world economy. Please stop down all side. Do not scale up. We dont known why we must sacrify our money for Ukraine war.

  2. Well well look at these western fools. They are trying to manipulate markets while claiming to be pro freedom and pro free market. What a pathetic bunch of losers!! They are market manipulators, but in another time they would complain about this very practice. West is a hypocritical wasteland with zero moral standing in the world. Just bitter imperialist thieves who want to control everything

  3. price cap doesn't really concern the EU or the US (since they don't buy anything ruzzian any longer) BUT it will prevent china, india and all the various ruzzian cronies to buy ruzzian oil and re-sell it at market value…

  6. The End of Russia. Humanity asks: – When will history bury dictators like Putin once and for all? – What does a murderous government have to worry about minorities like gays? – But governments have to divert the attention of the majority, especially attention to the belly, which groans with hunger. While millions die of hunger and cold in Russia, the dictator is left worrying about minorities, while the majority, including the celebrated fathers of families, and their children, die of hunger and cold.

  8. Absolutely redicoulous. Guess what will hapen. Oil prices will skyrocket. EU citizens will suffer additional income losses thanks to incompetent leaderships. And Putin will be able to sell oil at much higher prices since global price will be much higher. I wonder if our decission makers in eu have any idea how markets work. The fact that we have new sanctions reveal the complete failure of the previous ones. The problem is not putin and russia. The problem is our so called leadership in eu that make europeans poorer with every decission they take.

  9. This is setting a new precedent. Other major oil producers need to be really cautious & careful on how to deal with is. If this move to put a cap on a strategic commodity is successful God knows what is next (gold, gas, coffee..etc).
