How Music Got Free | Official Trailer | Paramount+

How Music Got Free premieres June 11th exclusively on Paramount+.

Uncover the secrets behind the crime we all committed. From executive producers Marshall “Eminem” Mathers, LeBron James, Maverick Carter, Paul Rosenberg and Steve Stoute and produced by Warner Bros. Unscripted Television/Telepictures in association with SpringHill, Interscope Films, and Shady Films, How Music Got Free details the fascinating, and often funny, inside story of the technology-driven disruption that changed music during the late-90s and early-2000s. File-sharing technology, combined with the insatiable demand for new music, created both the means and the motive for millions of young people to participate in outright theft – and be celebrated for it.

From New York City, to Los Angeles, to the small factory town of Shelby, North Carolina, the two-part series features the quirky genius of the heretofore-unknown “pirates,” the drama of the FBI investigations and convictions, and the frontline accounts of music’s biggest artists and executives. An unbelievable story of cunning, illegality, celebrity, and innovation, these are the events that changed the music industry forever. Narrated by Method Man, the series features interviews with Eminem, 50 Cent, Timbaland, Jimmy Iovine, Rocsi Diaz, Rhymefest, Steve Stoute and more.

  1. Why should we pay for something we are programmed 2 like in an unfair evil greedy business? The best artists of all time don't even get paid anyway and if they do, 90% is the labels. People don't just happen to like drake more than Rakim, it's the fact that society is dumbed down purposely

  2. Eminem didnt understand the internet so he didn't realize it took 43 minutes to download a 128kbps low quality song and half way thru it's bill clinton

  5. The Vinyl Album came with a jacket (that sometimes opened up), it gave you photos, lyrics, productions notes, & sometimes you'd get a poster in there. & it was way cheaper,.. Then came the Cassette Tape and it had less goodies, in a smaller format, you needed a magnifying glass to read the details (no poster could fit in there, so don't expect it) Lol. Then the CD fell off the back of the truck.. first it was boxed and you got some goodies in that box – like a booklet, DVD with videos.. then they stopped boxing it.. and you just got the CD in the case.. BUT most of the time it COST WAY MORE, & the Price kept RISING (because of the quality – you can't see it, but i'm rolling my eyes). I always told people "with the amount of money i spend on music, i could have bought a few houses". With the CD, it was one of the first times they shoved "You can't copy", down your throat for something you paid for.. "DON'T SHARE" (its not a book, you're not a library Lol).. we were villainized for sharing our own property that we paid for.. & then the whole deal changed when computers blew up. "DON'T COPY" But they were selling writable CDs that you could use for copying.. Yeah, its confusing. Same confusion with DVDs.. oh yeah, and that thing called the computer kept advancing the confusion with software that could pirate everything.. and you could find software to do that COPY Sh!t in high quality.. So, "How music got free". Well, we could even get it free back in the day by popping a tape in the Boombox.. and pressing record.. But nobody got mentally disturbed, because that didn't make sales go down.. So then.. along came this platform that you are currently reading this comment on.. and what did they began to do.. Provide a platform to PUT ARTIST HARD WORK ONLINE (a lot of times before it was even released).. and THEY want to ask how music got free.. How about "When did they say it was OK, to start giving it away????" because they are giving it away..!!! You don't even have to go to the library for old music anymore.. are there still record stores.. Lol. And the evolution of technology is an accomplice.. its not going backwards y'all..
