Explore rural America long enough, and you may stumble across a 50 to 70-foot concrete arrow on the ground in the middle of nowhere. But what are these mysterious 100 year-old arrows pointing to? In this week’s Grand Adventure we share their history before heading out to Skull Valley in Utah’s West Desert in search of one to see for ourselves. Come along!

ABOUT US
Welcome to Grand Adventure, a YouTube channel that focuses on RV-centric outdoor activities including not only of course camping, but also mountain biking, hiking, kayaking, skiing and more, always filmed in stunning 4K.
We’re based in Salt Lake City, Utah during the winter months, and invite you to come along as we travel all around the U.S. My wife Patricia and I, and dog Zoe are avid boondockers, so while you’ll occasionally find us in RV parks or even dry campgrounds, we’re usually camped in some of the most remote and beautiful spots that you could ever pull a travel trailer into. We’ve now transitioned from “long-timing” for six months a year, to living and traveling in our RV full-time.
We’ll provide beautiful travel videos, as well as some tips and insight on trip planning, and equipping and maintaining your RV to make your next adventure a grand one indeed! So, subscribe to make sure that you catch every episode, and remember…life is nothing but a Grand Adventure!

There are still some of those ground markers here in Iowa too.
Very cool and interesting Marc! Thx for sharing.
Very interesting Marc thanks
Wow, that was so cool. I never knew that they had those arrows out there.😁😁
Marc,
Thanks for taking the time reviewing all the history behind these historic makers. Then going out into the desert to find one! 🧐
I loved the contrast between the snowing in town and the complete departure from the storm out on the desert plains.👍
Gord
Didn't they nave compasses? I'm sure they were invented back then. Google says the compass was invented in china in 206 BC Thanks for the vid Mark!
Hello Marc!! Thank you very much for all of the history that you include with your videos!
I looked up Durant Field East Oakland, because my Dad grew up in East Oakland, didn't find much info., and I'd bet that there was no field when my Dad was born 1930.
A very cool piece of history! Thanks for sharing.
I really enjoyed the history lesson here, Mark. Great episode. Enjoy your skiing over there! 😊
Amazing bit of history. We flew out of UT99, West Desert Airport for years and never knew we were flying over this bit of history. Thank you! Adventure on!
So sorry I missed your live stream but I am watching it now. That is so Kool the arrow is still there 👍. I love Utah it such as beautiful state.
Thank you Marc, love your research and commentary on history…happy skiing too.
Thomas
Your videos are always informative and entertaining. Thanks for making them. Also, your use of chapter markers puts you ahead of most content creators.
Fascinating! History I did not know. Thank you for sharing and the old black and white photos! Loved the drone perspective of the arrow. Great vlog.- Michelle
Interesting story, Marc. Thanks for sharing.
WOW, that's so cool. Great history lesson. Thanks Don
Great little piece of history. These are the kind of things I literally drive out of my way to see. Then I can come back and brag to my friends…"Have you ever seen…". Safe travels and keep it real in 2024, Marc.
Another great episode!
Another very interesting video, you really come up with some great places, chalk up air mail history lesson for this week. I guess you'll be heading to Quartzite soon, travel safe
Can you imagine flying under those conditions? Hope you get the snow you want. We are at 72 today but will be in the teens Monday with ice and maybe some snow.
By the way the aircraft program I was working on when I quit working (the F-35) just rolled out the 1000 plane.
