  1. I utterly despised the Jodie/Chris era, as it was a complete antithesis of what the show was and should be. I do not need to list off all the terrible decisions that were made, or the current-year agenda pushing over story, that is easily documented, and catalogued by internet savvy personalities.

  2. I am concerned by the ongoing unseemly outbursts of woke attitude that RTD is currently showing on social media.
The failure of the last production, started at the top, and may cause the 2nd coming of Russell T Davies (which I call RTD2) may cause fans hopes in him to waver; Going back to many older interviews with him, did make comments to the effect that he was embarrassed by many aspects of the Classic Show, saying no more silly costumes. It was too slow. Needed more realistic characters. He added domestic and love to the backgrounds and motivations of the companions. The question is, will fans/normies/socialised groups accept better-written-woke-stories by an accomplished script-writer, over the Extremist-Preaching Nonsense masquerading as entertainment?

  3. You posed an interesting question Rabbi – given this final episode was recorded well before Russell Davies set about his first scripts and cast Ncuti Gatwa, does this not mean that the final scenes of Whittaker's reign will end with no connecting tissue to link it to Davies' relaunch…?
If so this would easily allow for the Chibnall/Whittaker run to be quietly ejjected by the fandom as some odd offshoot of the main series. A run of three extraordinary seasons where 'Doctor Who' was reimagined completely, and as time passes will be seen in the same light as those unmade 1990s film scripts with the Doctor chasing after his Gallifreyan father Ulysses, and his mother being revealed to be of earth….

Chris Chibnall's run does feel like one of those scripts. And as Davies likely reverts the series and the character to the more traditional and established mythology time will make Chibnall and Whittaker's run see to be just an odd 'elseworlds' version of Doctor Who. A failed experiement that shows what happens when you try to completely reinvent an already well established and loved character and intellectual property.

  4. I find it interesting that all of the rumors about the Centenary Special all follow the narrative that the BBC is embarrassed by this mess and don't know what to do with it. In July it was reported as rumor that the final cut had been delivered to the BBC and that the powers that be were horrified that it was a disjointed mess. The lack of promotion shows that 1) the BBC was not happy with what was initially turned in and that this 2) has likely caused massive reshoots or edits to try to selvage something that is presentable to be aired.

The major clue that something was wrong was when it was reported that the BBC had missed deadlines for trade magazines like SFM and Doctor Who Magazine. Of course those who still think that this era was fantastic are now using the excuse of the Queen's death as the reason for a delay in the release of a trailer, but this thing was filmed last year and there has been amble time over the summer to release something to generate hype.

I totally believe the story that the actors were told that this was the 60th anniversary when they were contacted, as has been basically confirmed by Aldred and Fielding. They would have thought that this was going to be the final episode of Doctor Who as it was in the process of being canceled when RTD agreed to come back.

  5. I've always preferred Nyssa to Tegan, and took me a while to even like Tegan as a character as she was so disagreeable and complainy but seems like Janet Fielding is the real life manifestation of Tegan, and even in real life Sarah Sutton is more likeable. So I'm hoping Nyssa/Sarah Sutton doesn't get roped into this travesty of an era, but it is a shame the 80s Doctors (my era) have agreed to take part for whatever reason. But this travesty can't be over soon enough as far as I am concerned.

  6. I don't follow his every word, but the more exposure I have of Christopher Eccleston today the more I wonder whether he feels his carreer is behind him now.

There can be admirable qualities to people in the business who speak their mind, and can be both praise-giving, and brutally candid when speaking of something they disagree with. But with Eccleston it appears to be at an extreme. These days he doesn't seem to be thinking at all in terms of how he comes across to potential employers and co-stars. And while I suspect he is someone who needs to work in order to find a true focus to his life, it seems clear enough today that he just isn't getting that work he needs….

There will be different reasons for this, but without a doubt his ever growing reputation as a difficult actor and personality to work with and have as a representative of your production is a serious block on those offers of good work that are potentially out there and available for him.

He really does need to shape up in terms of his image, and give it a lot more thought and care than he is these days.

I think this is an example of a person who is his own worst enemy, as he does himself no favours in regularly trashing other people and institutions he just happens to disagree with, but are otherwise widely loved.

  7. Chris Chibnall has two kinds of ideas… Bad ideas and VERY bad ideas! And, needless to say, none of them are original. That poster looks like it was dreamed up and produced in five minutes by some kid using Photoshop. It says nothing… apart from "Don't bother."

  8. ~20:00 The UPN Netwok carried Babylon 5 which was supposed to go 5 years, but they cancelled it after 4, forcing JMS to truncate his original story and ending… then along comes the Sci-Fi Channel with the 11th-hour rescue, so JMS had to crap out a whole season to fill in the last season which is a big reason why it basically sucked (but it had Patricia Tallman all season, so rowr! ).

As for a reboot… no. I'm gonna pass on that. The original is perfect as it is. Now, a continuation like 100 years in B5's future, then, maybe. It's still the 2020's so there's still a good chance it'll be woke crap.
