Would it be a total buzz kill to find out one day when you decide to open your streaming service and see some of your digital copies gone in an instant? What if you didn’t have the chance to pick up a physical copy as a backup when it was put on store shelves at your local retailer months or years prior? Chances are, it’s happening much more frequently, and that’s a sad, hard pill to swallow. Today, let’s talk about a film that has disappeared in the ether when it comes to physical and digital release. Let’s discuss George A. Romero’s 1978 zombie epic, Dawn of the Dead.

If people who stream cant get what they want and are xrying that makes me laugh.
Because theyre the ones who made fun of me when i kept buying physical media for decades.
Enjoy your censored limited run of your favourite movies while i enjoy the comfort of knowing i have thae same movie with commentaries, documentaries, behind the scenes and additional booklets, ards and posters available to me anytime i choose to watch it.
Cheers!
The 3D version is the best
Ironically I got mine the Anchor Bay Release DVD set right before Tower Records went under.
Got the DVD myself ❤
I've got a Blu-ray so I'm good
I had a huge digital collection on the flixter app but then they shutdown & moved to vudu & I lost everything
I remember picking up a copy by Divimax "special edition" at Safeway grocery store in like 2008 for 5 bucks, hope to hell its still packed away somewhere.
I have a DVD copy of Dawn and I saw it selling for like 80$ years ago when it went out of print…I was like wtf but it made me realize how dastardly some greedy corporation could manipulate or destroy the flow of what we watch. I still have that DVD :).
I never buy digital only movies for this very reason.
It's on 4k in the uk
It's a close-run thing with Night of the Living Dead, but Dawn of the Dead is arguably the best ever zombie film, and is probably the film that's been the most influential on the genre. It's completely insane and unforgivable that it's become unavailable. I'm lucky enough to have multiple copies on DVD. It didn't used to be hard to get at all- at one point in the 2000's they even gave it away free with a UK Saturday newspaper as a Halloween promo. If it can happen to Dawn of the Dead, it can happen to almost any movie- one of the many, many reasons consumers need to keep physical media alive.
Also, the Snyder remake has a good first 10 minutes, but then becomes an absolute garbage fire travesty. If that became lost media, I probably wouldn't care.
wll i dont believe in streaming never have never will
I’m glad I bought the bluray from anchor bay of Dawn of the Dead in the late 2000’s. if I had known what I know now, I would have bought all of them at the store.
this is why i love disc replay usually the ones by me do buy 3 get 3 dvds 3.99 each unless its rare built a over a 1000 movies collection this way an have found multiple different versions of dawn of the dead ill never rely on streaming
I hate that youtube deletes vids, it feels like they are erasing history, memories, proof things happened…
Dawn of the Dead 1978 rulez forever !!! 💯👀🔨🔨🔨🔨🔨🔨🔨🍻👍 greetings from Hamburg Germany 🤘
A 6 disc collectors edition in Blu Ray, Steel Book. That would be grand.
A few months ago, yours truly scored the Second Sight 4K Blu-ray set. The only issue is that the special features Blu-ray isn't region free.
Rather fucked that it's more or less pure greed that's stopping us from getting the features-packed Dawn of the Dead 4K/Blu-Ray box set with all three cuts of the film. Personally I'd nominate The Criterion Collection with such a feat. I figure they already have an amazing Night of the Living Dead release, why not let them do the same for Dawn and maybe Day?
I'm in England and bought the second sight 7 disc set it really is a thing of beauty and my favourite set out of all my collection.
As a guy who collects physical media that sucks you can't find movies like Dawn of the Dead anywhere.
I have physical copies of everything I love in multiple formats from MP3 player CDs Vinyl and even 8 tracks. I knew what this whole digital media thing was years ago hell ,Stevie wonder could see this BS coming.
You can import the brazilian blu-ray edition" O Despertar dos Mortos " (Dawn of the dead) released by Versátil circa four years ago
In that release you have in a single package the 1978 theatrical cut and the extended cut on Blu-Ray + the Argento cut in DVD (the dvd is region 4)
I feel what you’re trying to say, but when you say the 2004 Dawn of the Dead doesn’t hold a candle to the original, you’re going down a path I can’t follow.
Look bro by next year best buy walmart are kinda stop selling movie the last thing is videogames soon they will be gone
I'm not a fan of pie fights in any movie. It always comes off as a homage to silent film era "classics" no one remembers.
Own it on out of print Blu Ray and DVD ! Miss you Anchor Bay Entertainment!
I don't understand why collectors held off from getting region free players but immediately jumped on 4K bandwagon.
Dawn of the Dead has always been ready available in other regions.
That Second Sight UK release is one the nicest versions of this ever. Definitive copy.
