Close calls on an African Safari!

It’s a little unreal to realize we are in Africa. It seemed so far away when we started 8 years ago. A far off land that we may reach in our very distant dreams. Yet here we are. In Africa!

  1. Im from South Africa. Just came back from a Safari. Elephants flapped their ears made a bit of noise and they look like they are going to charge.
Its a scare tactic. If they want to charge their head and ears go down.
Friends of mine got charged by Rhino on a bush walk. The game ranger stood his ground. But it was a close call..they had to run for the hills!

  4. (Edit: I have to say backing up and giving the Ellies there space, I respect that.) ok, about my comment: I'm not going to try and be mean, but the single Elephant at 6:38 is around the 20-25 years old and a Cow (female). Now, just to help others so they know what to look for, Cows (females) have a flat top on there head with a square turn before there head angles down (with a place for a princes tiara) and mammary glands under the front (leg) on there chest… there are more point to look for but I find these the most helpful. Male Ellies have rounded foreheads (like a bike helmet) and there chest come up at an angle to the front legs. and then there is the manly item no one can mistake. So reverence to time stamp 6:16 the 2 Ellies in the road. The 1 in front is a bull (male). 2nd crossing at the back is cow (female) note her flat head and square forehead. too the male in front that has a rounded head. (btw his around 12-15 and really trying to be boisterous and show how big and strong he is, by shaking his head and flapping his hears. the other Ellies don't have a care in the world that you are there.)

  5. Many days at work I feel like that dung beetle trying to roll a big pile of sh!t uphill. One day it will pay off with funds saved for an adventure like yours. Love that you share this with all of us.

  6. You should really watch Episode 224 on Sailing Zatara. Keith had some controversial thoughts on exactly what you both did while in Madagascar. (Giving hand outs on the beach to locals) – Would love to hear your thoughts on what he had to say.
