  1. The first part of Straws… is excellent in its own right, but the last part has an almost transcendent, ethereal quality. It's much lighter, more melodic with an infectious polyrhythm groove, but 'unique' is probably the correct term here Geebz – I've not heard them replicate it in other songs.

  2. I love how the albums bpm slows down as the songs go, each track eventually fades to the wall at the end, great concept, probably their most desired sound overall, they wanted something, they probably felt like ahhh just right when Blue was released, so Nothing is my top album, but every album has its place

  3. Coincidentally, I've been fucking with that song too for the last few days! The second half is something out of this world. It has easily become one of my all time favourites from Meshuggah.

  4. i dont agree with the person who said the drums were a machine. they were re-recorded as were the guitars and bass. there just isnt enough information as to how the original albums drums were sampled and used. i prefer the blue version but that section is a calming bear hug.

  5. I honestly do not like the remaster(blue version) as much as the original(yellow version). Also Closed Eye Visuals has a special place in my heart, and is prolly my favorite song they have ever done.

  6. This is a top 10 album for me. Perpetual Black Second, Glints Collide, Organic Shadows and Closed Eye Visuals are my favs. Not a fan of a last 2 tracks unfortunately. And yes the orange version is a milliom times better. The snare and the guitars sound amazing. But it without a doubt the grooviest album I've ever heard in any genre

  7. As soon as he mentions loving bits of awesome melodic parts, I knew he was going to say straws pulled at random, literally said it just before he did haha
(Also this is why I argue destroy. Erase. Improve. And nothing are such great albums BECAUSE they have those occasional beautiful melodic sections, which perfectly contrasts their masterful and stylistically quintessential brutality) 🤓🤌🏽 I honestly miss that side of their writing style

  8. The reason they re-recorded this album was when they first recorded it they only had 7 string guitars tuned down at the time. Once they got their 8 string guitars they re-recorded this cd. I think they also reversed the left and right stereo mixing to make it also sound different.

  9. Straws Pulled was the first Meshuggah song I ever heard, still gives me chills often. The latter half is just brilliant and awesome. Like literally awe-inspiring, it has this godly sense to it, like it captures the beauty and mysterious nature of life and reality so well. There's a sense of grandeur.
I became a huge fan, needless to say. May very well still be my favorite song by them, certainly from Nothing–albeit, that's a tough call because the album is just an absolute banger from start to finish. Close seconds would be either Spasm, or Closed Eye Visuals. Stengah, then Rational Gaze as 4th and 5th.
    Good call, Geebz.
