Chat Reporting in Minecraft 1.19.2: Gaslight Strikes Back

Unsurprisingly, Gaslight developers have found new way to exploit the chat reporting system. What is it, and is it the only one?

  1. Just an FYI it's not Mojang or Microsoft pushing this, it's the ADL. The ADL put out an article 2 weeks ago about unmoderated chats in servers, and the main one they complained about without saying which one it was, was 2b2t. The ADL (Anti-Defamation league) is behind every censorship push on all servers.

So get angry guys, you're being censored by people who don't play minecraft.

  2. I dont know much about chat reporting, but mojang is (trying) to implement unnecessary and flawed mesures. There are already chat regulations that servers use and they have evolved through the years into an extremely flexible chat regulation, that won't mistake "night" for the n word.

  3. Let’s go to a place where everything is made of despair.
With the only limit, is what the higher ups say.
Let’s go, wherever we are permitted to go.
Climb the tallest mountains…. Oh wait you can’t… Microsoft says so.
Adventure down, to the darkest caves… oh wait you aren’t permitted.
Build anything that Microsoft will like. Day or night rain or night.
Build a majestic propaganda poster in favour of Microsoft.
Invent a new weapon that Microsoft can use.
Play with friends… only that you can’t speak to each other because chat is censored.
Build home your little community… only under Microsoft’s surveillance.
Protect yourself with the strongest armour… oh wait you aren’t permitted…
Fight off the dangers of the night… You don’t have a sword.
Everyone can tell you what you can or cannot do.
With so many rules to follow.
This adventure is not yours but THERES, you are irrelevant.

    Welcome to Minecraft 1.19.84

  4. I never play on public multiplayer servers anyway, so I'm not really concerned about the whole chat reporting thing.

However, if I did, I would just never say anything without the context being explicitly in my message.

If someone asked "Hey do you want to PVP?" I would respond "Yes, I would like to PVP", not just simply "Yes".

Easy way to counter all of these exploits.

  5. The chat report system was made to punish groomers and make a safer place for children and teens to play. What i think Mojang should do is that you're NOT able to modify the chat you're reporting, just mark chat lines as "not relevant", but still send all the information (and also implement it so that the chat log works like a blockchain, so you cant just modify some packet at your will)

  6. If a java server uses the Essentials plugin, someone with the privilege could theoretically get anyone banned with the /sudo command. You can force others to run commands as though they ran it in the first place. For example with /sudo player1 c: hello world, you can make player1 say hello world in chat as though they wrote it. This needs to be looked into, about if the messages sent with the c: command are signed the same way/are the same thing as a normal message. With this, for example, you could make anyone say anything in creative anarchy servers or be a server owner/admin/mod or whatever who misuse their power to get people banned easily.
