“Bob Lee, a technology executive who founded the mobile payment company Cash App and previously worked at Square, died Tuesday after he was stabbed near downtown San Francisco, according to his family and police.

San Francisco police said officers responded to a report of a stabbing around 2:35 a.m. Tuesday. The officers found Robert Lee, 43, with apparent stab wounds. He was taken to a hospital and died of his injuries, police said.

Police Chief Bill Scott said in a statement Wednesday night that the investigation is in its early stages and he called it a horrific crime.”

  1. Children are getting their heads blasted off. Mothers are identifying their children by the shoes once worn. Militia are being supplanted with local law enforcement. And 1 millionaire gets murdered and all the sudden WE have a problem with crime?? Give that man a cookie.!!

  2. This might the motivation for the wealthy to finally do something about the homeless problem.
When rich newcomers come in and displace the natives.. it’s only a matter of time the more violent and mentally ill will start attacking even the rich people.

  3. This is a horrible tragedy if it’s truly random.
Still, 2am in San Francisco is not safe anywhere. Perceived safe neighborhood or not. This is the kind of thing that typically happens to tourists… not a resident.

  4. Elon Musk is a typical reich-wing hypocritical asshole. This is a tweet he put out on November 20, 2022 @ 11:44pm from his iPhone: "I have no mercy for anyone who would use the deaths of children for gain, politics or fame." I guess he perfectly fine with using the death of a tech industry founder for gain, politics or fame.

  5. That's awful. How long before the left admits there's actually a real crime problem in Many democratic ran cities.
Denying this for political reasons is really just killing and harming More innocent people

  6. Who thinks anywhere near the Bay Bridge is a safe area? I’d never go out there alone at 2am. There are tons of random people walking around at all hours. Many are displaced people suffering from mental illness.
All these tech guys and girls moving into SF and displacing middle and low income people have created a dire situation.
They should have pushed for rent control instead of voting against it. The callousness of people in the financial district unfortunately was experienced by Mr. Lee, when likely a fellow resident didn’t help him.

  7. A tip to anyone visiting SF. Gas up before going into the city. Avoid having to use a gas station at night in SF. Never walk around alone at night anywhere… especially near the Bay Bridge. There is no such thing as a safe neighborhood near the Bay Bridge considering across the bridge is Emeryville, a very unsafe place.
I don’t know if this guy was a nice person. He clearly didn’t deserve to be murdered. But these tech guys I’ve met all have moved in from outside SF, all bought new condos near the hippest part of town, and pretty much look down on the homeless (who typically have more roots to SF than they do). They think their money makes them more deserving to live there, and do little to help the native population.

  8. If it's San Francisco, it's because of those "dirty liberals". If it was a school in Tennessee, it's because of "mental health". I really hate Republicans.

  10. Unfortunately it's not just if you don't know if it's a setup a lot of people don't want to get involved because if you get involved trying to help somebody in the police arrived they think you're the you're the suspect and they might just shoot you

I was in shock until I heard it happened in San Francisco, you get what you voted for clean up your city it isn’t fear mongering when the government in your city offers free clean needles for junkies and decriminalized every offense but I’ll bite what’s your source on that list of “most dangerous cities”

  12. I'm sure the MANY people Elon knows who have been severely assaulted are women and I can only guess the identity of the person who is severely assaulting these people 'that Elon knows' as someone with enough money & influence to get released immediately.

  14. I mean, San Francisco has issues, and people complain that it is getting worse and worse. I think one of their problems is that they are constantly pulled in two directions, one is progressive, one is more centrist, and they are constantly clashing in ideology and legislation. Often the cheapest solutions go through the fastest, but it's only part of the solution. When the Pandemic hit, they did go softer on keeping criminals because it was deadly to be in jail, so a lot of petty theft got free and crimes that did things like damage cars or steal catalytic converters went up. It went up all over California, but especially in SF. There's also been a push for safe injection sites in San Francisco, but more rehab and housing programs have been slower because they cost more, with economic downturn you get a lot more homeless people and a lot more hands-off of letting them build their shanty towns, that too has exploded all over the bay area, but part of this has made the place a destination for homeless to try to go, at least from out of state. That is tough, because San Francisco and the Bay Area in general is one of the most expensive places in the US to live.

They keep building "affordable" housing all over the Bay, but these are still about million dollar+ condos, which is competitive to the general single family home or more wealthy exclusive condo, but it's still not cheap enough for someone at McDonald's full time can afford, renting is still expensive unless you know the owner/tenant personally and they can give you a deal. This area is still popular for immigration so a lot of new people can come in, and there is a lot of push to get to a "living wage" in SF and california specifically, but honestly that gets hard in really doing anything until it gets closer to national or statewide. Then you have gentrification that turns the areas that were affordable or inherited from lower class people to become affordable places for middle and upper middle to live, but also creating situations where now you have an hour commute to your Job at Subway or something, it's kind of not how things should work. I don't really know the solutions, it's not that "Things were done better in the past" but that a lot of these problems have accumulated from several places kicking the can down the road, and we are starting to see problems build up.

Still, with this case, I hesitate because we don't even know why he died. I mean, for all we know it could have been a targeted murder! It's his right to be out, possibly working, possibly going home at 2am, but that's kind of always been a bit dangerous and out of the norm. I don't want to speculate anything on this, especially as he seems like he was generally a good person (not that good people can't make mistakes or have random tragedies done to them). All I can really give are "thoughts and prayers" to his family and kids (which is kind of sad, because I feel like most of us would have wanted to help in hindsight, even though I don't blame the people who ran because that situation can be dangerous for them as well, especially having someone come up to you at 2am begging for something hysterically).

  15. I don't normally care for super rich people but CashApp is a great App for working class folks. For free you are basically getting a bank account with a debit card number so you can get paid from your job, send and receive money and they recently added the ability to do your taxes. All for free!

Here's my theory: Some angry financial sector people took him out! If enough people start using cash app their "Free Checking" grift will end. H&R Block & TurboTax are now on notice too with their Tax prep functionality.

    RIP Bob Lee

  16. I use Cashapp. I’m worried on in if should use it now? I wouldn’t worry if there weren’t people out there that would use this for bad purposes. I know that it’s extremely unlikely but if people like Trump and McCarthy exist then it’s hard to fully feel safe with it now. Maybe I’m wrong? I’m going to consider it safe but be cautious about updates 🤷🏻‍♂️

  17. When you are rich MOST of the time its over money. He had many partnerships and killed in a very secure area. His wallet phone and jewelry still on him and cameras everywhere. He was out on the town with friends. Some one knew he was out this seems planned to me because a crack addict is going to leave with something of value, they are not going to leave empty handed and apparently he had all his belongings. when you are rich you have to be mindful where you are.
