As a Left 4 Dead purist, they are the same game.
I agree with Gary in that 10 hours is not little time to be put into a game but specially talking about a very diverse multiplayer game, 10 hours is nothing when you mean to experience everything that game has to offer. to take the movie analogy that was said there are a lot of movies that now are some of my favourites in the world and finished clicking with me after the first half or even with the ending. I could have turn them off at 30 minutes when I was getting bored, but I think that then you can't say it was bad, just that it wasn't for you. Games are similar in this regard I think, but to each theri own. Great episode
“TCM had its time in the Sun.”
And it screamed, “It burns!”
And the players asked, “Is everything okay?”
And the devs banned them all from the Reddit.
It is I, that idv (pc) player commenting to say – you are right put it in F.
I will be "That Identity V" person:
I think that the criticisms of IDV are correct from the guys, but only if you are considering Identity V to be a game that is played the same as DBD. That isn't the case. The objectives and mechanics are the same but the players aren't toxic for camping, as the game is balanced around camping as a strategy. Rescuing in IDV is very very different than it is in DBD.
It's understandable that the guys had this initial opinion due to them seeing the game as a DBD clone, but I think the game needs to be weighed as it own game. It is much more balanced than DBD is, it has tons of new content (more that DBD gets) with more unique hunters and survivors (making big strides forwards to what asyms can have). Tons of big crossovers that are still coming and tons of active players!
I just think they brushed the game off without having played it properly and with a bias towards it being a DBD clone. Understandable, but still a shame. There are issues with the game, but which asyms don't have issues?
Love the podcast guys, keep it up, glad to have you all back after the break.
But what about Killing floor 2
I like these but i miss watching u play dbd💚
Longest episode?!?!?!? !!
Whos the origin of "foon" and "lul"? This is vital information I'm missing.
I'm so excited for a new era of Spine Chill. I love watching you guys talk about games that you love and I always thought that you should branch out from asym games.
I think Doug is wrong there about the ten hours not being enough time investment to fully understand any game. Like, my man, that's like a week worth for the average Andy. How much more time is needed to determine a game's not good or has flaws? Why do you think Steam's refund policy is at max 2 hours of playtime and not 10?
Actually agree with Gary for Friday the 13th it's nowhere near that good I understand why people like it but it's definitely not that great it's very mid and clunky fight me.
This was such a walk down memory lane
Great season! Super excited for the future! For the F13 discussion, I do disagree that 10 hours isn't enough to have a good opinion on a game, however, i think theres absolutely exceptions and dbd and F13 are exceptions. In the case of DBD if you're a player that has come in in recent years and hasn't consumed any twitch content etc, you will not figure out the game in 10 hours. DBD is entirely marketed as a run/hide game, nowhere does it say that your best strategy is literally running circles around a shitty coffee table 19 times until you have to drop the pallet. Nowhere does it say that camping or tunnelling is a feels bad, you don't even know those terms exist until someone insults you for it in the post-game. You learn about looping, mind games and optimal strategies from playing with or against players with hundreds of hours, because thats generally how long it takes (same with fighting games with the ability to read the opponent and make calls). Playing DBD after 10 hours is insanely different to playing with a few hundred, and I think F13 is the same just not as hectic. F13's best moments all come from the weird and pretty widely varied interactions with Jason, fellow survivors and the environment around you, there really is a lot to that game and 10 hours is a bit low to experience the whole package, same with dbd, so I think its an exception in that way.
So glad to have a new episode. Now I can stop annoying my wife letting her know every week that spinechill hadn’t updated yet. Excited to hear your guys’ thoughts on other things horror.
I think f13 was kind of shit
"You know what people love? Dinosaurs."
PLEASE play Jean Nguyen's Dino-Sword when it comes out! 1-v-1, dino-on-dino, sword-in-mouth.
As an avid EX-Damned player at the height of its popularity in 2013-14, it saddens me that John doesn’t recognise it for the masterpiece it was (when it ran at more than 10 fps every other patch). In fact, it was so good that there is now a DAMNED 2 coming, available on Steam via demo now. Where is the HYPE for this asymmetrical game Spine Chill team?!?
Doug you should play this game in spite of your co-hosts, their sense of superiority has got their heads stuck in the clouds!
And NO JOHN, it’s more complicated than a hide and seek game, you have to find KEYS and OPEN DOORS to find the exit.
All joking around aside, thank you guys for the continuous fun this show has been. I’d watch you guys talk about all horror games, anything gaming to be honest. The chemistry between you lads is amazing. Cheers from AUS for a cracker of a time
What are you people?
BOOKCLUB, BOOKCLUB, BOOKCLUB!!! Spine Chill always puts a smile on my face, genuinely don't think there's been a bad season because I've thoroughly enjoyed every single one and the banter you guys have. Literally wheezing at some parts (lul). I agree with the tier list tbh, the way you guys hash things out, it's like yeah, good points, I see what you're saying (I MIGHT have put TCM a little lower out of spite, but I recognize that outside of the meta players and the bad handling, the gameplay's solid). I'm excited to see more seasons now that you guys have so many more possibilities open to you on what to play! Thank you guys for another best season yet!
(Sidenote: Speaking as someone who only has been watching John playing Alan Wake 2 and not seen any previous games from it, I genuinely think it's a really engaging and fulfilling experience by itself. Maybe even more but that's probably my bias? Going in knowing less means I feel like there's more possibilities of what's going on for me, no expectations, and AW2 has had a lot of unexpected delights and cool weird moments. I'm glad I don't have a clue what's going to happen next, it's fun.)
