  1. I've seen all the leaked Pokemon and there is only 1 I like. But I really, really like it. So much so that I am considering fast-tracking it into my fan fiction. But besides that, I am seriously wondering how to handle Gen 9. I haven't mentioned it in the fan fiction yet, but I've removed Dynamax/Gigantamax. I'm keeping the forms though. My argument is that Gigantamax and Mega Evolutions run on the same energy and Mega Stones are compress energy. This way I can keep the forms but they're scaled down to normal size and power. I kind of like the Terastal gimmick, but I hate the crown that just doesn't match the Pokemon, so I will likely keep Terastal but remove the crown. Beyond that, I really hate the future Pokemon so I legit might just cut the future content entirely. Reworking it all sounds like a massive pain, and I definitely don't want to keep it because the idea of a robot Donphan with LED eyes is just dumb.

  2. As far as Monster designs go, I think Nexomon and Coromon nailed it. Grath, Broshield, Megalobite, Torravolt, etc. I just like how they manage to have their fair share of intimidating designs, which is something that game freak has been terrible at lately. I've seen the starters for Generation 9, and they are just as lanky, scrawny and unassuming as they have been since generation six.

  3. Also, am I the only one that absolutely hates the designs of Armarouge and Ceruledge? Not only don't they look like Pokemon, but they look like they actually might be human, which is something I never want my monsters to look like.

  4. for me.. the new pokemon is fine.. but this gen 9 looks like legend series bullshit is very boring and i dislike it so much..
and game freak lazily not including all pokemon again is really upsetting.. its not the 1st game on the switch system, they didnt have any reason to not include everything… its pure laziness and greediness
gotta catch some of em is very sad slogan…

  5. I value the pokemon designs that feel grounded. Gen 6 was my favorite as far as new pokemon designs are concerned, minus obvious outliers like Klefki, followed by SwSh.

All that to say that ScarVio has the worst designs across the board I could have imagined coming to Pokemon. I hate almost all of them. The difference in quality from the pokemon they've initially shown to all the pokemon that got leaked are night and day in a very bad way. Way too goofy, way too alien. The redesigns for pokemon like diglett and tentacruel are devoid of creativity and they aren't even trying to hide it. My kids are still excited to play, so I'll end up playing to play with them, but man it's going to be hard.

Also, dexit can suck my left nut. I can't fathom that Vulpix is unavailable. Squirtle and Bulbasaur too. Like its crazy. I've had my pokemon transfered from gen 1 all the way through to SwSh. Gamefreak should be forced to give the IP to someone that actually cares.

  6. There's a lot of Pokemon that don't feel like Pokemon, it's very strange. Also having seen leaks, I love all the Second stage Starters but the Final Stages kinda just don't do it for me. It might be the first generation where I don't use my Starter the whole time.

  7. Fair enough, at the end of the day its a matter of preference. I personally like the majority of the new designs. My absolute favourites being the megamen, both box legends and cyclizar (and some other leaked ones).

  8. One thing I will say – seeing the Pokemon move / actually animated makes quite a difference vs just seeing the Artwork. I thought Miraidon was so much cooler than Koraidon but seeing Koraidon and how he stands when he fights and stuff really changed that big time. I still hate that Koraidon runs instead of using his wheels but his like power-stance when attacking is so fucking cool and for people who have not seen his shiny…. you HAVE to see his shiny. Maybe one of the best shinies ever?

  9. I don't like what Generation 8 stands for as a whole in the Pokemon franchise but man, SWSH and Arceus Legends designs were so much better. Whatever the hell happened to the design philosophy going from SWSH/AL to SV is beyond my knowledge, but it's a direction I don't like.
I got a look at the leaked Pokedex and a lot of these Pokemon just look like 3D shapes with limbs and a face slapped on, rather than tangible and believable (within the Pokemon universe) creatures. Lots of them lack this edge that balanced out the SWSH Pokedex with Pokemon like Corviknight and Grimmsnarl. Lots of these new Pokemon are just very round to a fault. I don't like SV's regional designs and new evolutions for older Pokenon either (with some exclusions but I know some people don't want to be spoiled on that). For me, these regional variants pale in comparison to the likes of Obstagoon and Runereigus. And to top it all off, this roster of new Pokemon is small, and not in a good way like XY's new Pokemon.
I can only think of a few SV designs I genuinely like: the starters, box legendaries, the knights whose name I can't remember for the life of me, and Cyclizar.

  10. Overall I like these starters more than gen 8 starters. I’ve been team Fuecoco from the start, and after seeing the leaks, I’m still team Fuecoco. There are some cool leaked designs I won’t mention here, but honestly gen 9 is chock full of weird designs and underwhelming designs. Still, some are starting to grow on me, some I’ve liked since the first look at them, but most are still pretty mid to me. Also, mild spoiler, but I’m very disappointed in the shinies for Armarouge and Ceruledge.

  12. Monster design is a subjective and preferential concept. Not to mention, Pokemon has always been preachy AGAINST shallowness and judging others by appearance. I couldn't care less about any new Pokemon because they're more than likely to suffer the exact same drawbacks any other monster does in Pokemon games of having no unique or interesting gameplay or personality compared to most other monster collectors.

  13. I like that you used zapdos and moltres to illustrate side legendaries when that was just what the core trio was back then. I think a lotta of the newer designs and lore just become too bloated. A super rare dragon is one thing, but a water dragon who is the god of space and the direct creation of a horse god kinda locks up what can be done going forward. The tornadus group, the swords, eternatus, the new regis, etc. Not only are there obviously too many per game, but I feel like they have lost so much of their novelty, or even impact.

  14. See, my opinions changed DRASTICALLY after seeing the leaks. I won’t discuss any of the leaked Pokémon, but I will say that I adore nearly all of them. I was disappointed with most of the revealed Pokémon up until Grafaiai. They just looked boring, like regular animals, and all had a chunky, round, begging-to-be-a-plushie design. But the leaked Pokémon all look so unique, and Gamefreak seems to be stretching their design Philosophy on what makes a Pokémon design. I went from feeling disappointed to thinking it’s the best Gen of designs ever. I never like it when people say, “It doesn’t even look like Pokémon anymore” since GF’s design philosophy has been growing and evolving along with the franchise. Heck, there are even unofficial “eras” of their designs. Gen 1-2 is the classic or “realistic era”, Gen 3-5 are the abstract era, and Gen 6-8 are the Plushie era. I think Gen 9 is a bridge from Plushie to something new.

  15. One thing I noticed that the Pokémon don’t have a clear art direction in this generation if you look at the ones that are revealed there isn’t any consistency whatsoever when it comes shapes, line arts, shading, color palettes etc.. it feels as if someone bought designs form different artists and didn’t bother to redraw them in a Unified art style which is annoying to me if I’m being honest

  16. The big problem I have with this and other generations is that they don't feel like they're animals. It feels like they design the environments and pokemon separately and they just put them where it matches their typing. Add foliage that matches some of them, let some pokemon run in herds, make some of them stink so bad other pokemon run away, let them fight for territory, let them interact with the environment/ each other in any way. But Im sure this is asking too much.

  17. I personally at least like all of them, with a handful of mons I really love (Specifically Grievard, Gimmighoul (Traditional JRPG Mimic!), Farigiraf (I love its design and how different it is from typical fan evos), and Ceruledge (I also like Koraidon's overall design and Miraidon's eyes). Not counting Fuecoco cause I haven't seen the final evo in-depth yet (Just the quick glance cause someone couldn't be bothered to label their art as a spoiler and I happened to scroll past it (I'm still salty about that))).

  18. There are so many fugly, retarded, spawn of incest, bastard of Fakemons in this game… Sad to see, in my opinion, the worst designs in in series so far, otherwise, the game will be awesome!

  19. I cannot stress how ugly I find the new designs. An overwhelming majority look like a Porygon without edges. It's as though their design philosophy is limited to only how similar they can make pokemon to Slurpuff, Bewear, and Drampa.

That doesn't even cover the fact that the "Paradox" forms look like the original designs were fed to an AI that synthesized either a Robot or Primitive version.

  20. Kinda with you on this one, many of the new designs look quite derpy or uninspired to me, which also applies the starters unfortunately. At least the paradox forms are really good, might make a team with just those for my playthrough

  21. Aside from the legendary lizards, I agree with you. I literally don't care about any of these designs. I don't hate them, I don't like them, they're just…there. So far kind of disappointing. I hope there's a lot more they just haven't shown that I'll like.

  22. I agree these designs are lacking in terms of theme, originality, or overall good looking

Although I might say maybe just a handful of them for actually good looking and the rest are just trash

I'm not sorry about it and you can't change my mind they just look weird and lazy to me

  23. the only mon I care about is the crab at this point, and even then I feel like it would be better if you blacked out the eyes. I don't think it needed visible pupils and on the whole "blend in and ambush" thing the white eyes with the pupil are not only goofy but would give away it's position IMO a lot quicker. my general feelings toward this generation is Apathy, mostly as I feel like this is just gonna be a slight polish and even a double down to the SwSh experience, which upset me for multiple reasons.
