An Introduction to the Lore of Space Marine 2 & Warhammer 40K

Space Marine 2’s story and lore is the first jumping on point of the 40K franchise for a lot of players. So today I thought I’d go through the Lore and explain everything you need to know to understand Space Marine 2 and by extension the 40K setting.
Big thanks to Kimber for helping by gathering all the footage from Space Marine 1 for me (My copy was broken): https://www.youtube.com/@UCe6E1PWhfdmmCRyhawj60Dg

  1. Hey gang! Few things.
    1) please feel free to point out errors. There’s a lot of lore on 40K and a lot of sources I’ve missed or assumptions I’ve made. As I’ve said knowledge is a journey, and I’m happy to learn if I’m wrong so please leave corrections below if you feel compelled. Happy to hear them.
    2) huge thanks to @@KimberPrime for helping me gather Space Marine 1 footage. For whatever reason my copy was totally FUBAR and I wasn’t able to get it done in decent time. She was a huge help.

  2. Hello Byf Idk if you'll see this and don't worry about me trying to correct anything with the Warhammer lore as I'm learning it as well.

All I want to say is that I implore you to read more into the lore, and possibly make more videos as to what the Warhammer world has to offer. Maybe even explore the lore of other games as well if anything peaks your interest. I don't wish for you to stop on the destiny lore videos or anything like that.Destiny still remains very special to me and many others that only hope for it to get better in the future if possible. However, with so many other games that have come out with their own varieties of lore and mysteries ,I'd think it only makes sense to look into them as well. Not saying you should, but putting it out as an idea for future videos and viewers who'd want to hear your representation of the lore and personal remarks of the story being told from your perspective

Other than that I really enjoyed the video and hope you enjoy your time learning the history, battles and incredible stories from Warhammer 40k

  3. I gotta shout out @weshammer
Makes the lore and stories very digestible. I'm looking forward to you making some content tho byf! Especially if you get into the horror books and the horus heresy. Or the primarch stories

  4. One thing that might be worth noting for people is that the prinarchs that survived the heresy essentially all went absent for 10,000 years shortly after.. Guillaman mortally wounded and placed in stasis. Vulcan Mia. Russ chasing heretics into the eye of terror etc etc. their absence is partly why the imperium has decayed so much.

Upon his recent resurrection Guilliman was disgusted by the state of what ot has become, but feels he can't tear it apart as the faith his father hates so much abd the fought so hard against is the only thing holding it all together.

So for the events of sm1 Roubute is still essentially a corpse held on the edge of death. He becomes active again in-between space marine 1 and 2

  5. The Tyranids are TERRIFYING. The Imperium once conducted an experiment where they let Tyranids fight Orks in an all out war, hoping one side would eliminate the other. That ended poorly. Orks just kept spawning and feeding biomass to the Tyranids. Neither side could lose due to their sheer numbers, but the Tyranids were still winning based on how much Orks they devoured. There is no known way to defeat the Tyranids. They just regrow into new units and continue devouring. And despite what the lore says, it's not a fully HIVE MIND society. There have been known individual Tyranids who stood out. One such is the Old One-Eye, a Tyranid who's near impossible to kill, but when it is killed, it regenerates into another Tyranid's body, but with his signature one-eye, and scar over the other.
It's speculated that Necrons might be the only force that can actually withstand the Tyranids because they have no biomass in their bodies and ships. The Tyranids might not even be able to respond to the Necrons if they can't detect them. However, the Necrons have very low numbers and even if they could go undetected, they likely won't be able to do too much damage.

  6. Just one small correction, that is recent and less of a retcon and more of a clarification on the myths created from the timeline of 30k during the Horus heresy. The Emperor of Mankind did not destroy Horus’s soul, as depicted to us in the final book of the siege of Terra series, and even ends his final strike with the words to Horus, “I wait for you, and I forgive you” which ended with a final blow from his blade, instead of the believed physic attack that soul destroyed previously. I recommend if you are wanting less mythology lore that is generated by the religious zealotry of the 42nd millennium, to go through the 30k lore
