When he took off his glasses the first time in FF7Rem my heart skipped a beat
Something I noticed is that the original Barret design he is constantly walking with a limp, clearly one of his legs isn't working properly. Although in his Remake design the metal bands are replaced with what looks like like to me a belted compression brace. Its likely a back brace that also does extra work as looking like military gear plus a lot of extra belts per Final Fantasy fashion. I've seen people wearing similar back braces before, and to me it reads as he's done a man who has done back breaking work.
It’s been 4 years how did it take this video for me to realize that Barrett didn’t have his shades in the original
Barret was one of my first… truly healthy male role models. As a trans guy, I had to define my own masculinity, because society didn't really allow me to develop it the same way my brothers did which is a good thing, to an extent. I had a lot of bad male role models around me, but they just bullied me instead of trying to mold me into themselves, so I mostly just learned how not to be from them. Barret showed me what it meant to be a protector, when to hide softer edges, and how to still be a person when stuff hits the fan. And the way he treats his kid is just… so wonderful, in so many ways. He's a big softy, and he taught me it could be a strength instead of a weakness.

It's so tough to analyze a character so iconic. Even though I never got into the series I can imagine the response would be "Well, yeah! He's really cool because… Of course he is!"
When the remake showed his fathely side with Marlene and how important she is to him, it must've dawned on many of us what it meant stopping Shinra. It wasn't just "lets be heroes and save the planet", its saving Marlene's future as well. And what father wouldn't fight the devil and the world itself to give their children a brighter future.
As someone who's never played either game, it's a shame no one really talks about him, I feel like he gets overshadowed by literally every other main character, at least in terms of what I see online.

When i was a kid, i assumed that he named Barrett in relation to the Barrett Anti Material Rifle.
Never played the og FF7 but when i played the remake. I instantly like Barrett even though he seemed like an asshole in the demo and the beginning i was like hes probably the one person who if i told something personal or asked advice he would be the most honest and show empathy and sympathy.
My opinion on Barrett went from “I like this guy” to “THE MOST BEAUTIFUL MAN IN FINAL FANTASY (sorry Edgar from ff6)” the first time he took off his glasses in remake

Barret is the tie in for the player. The nost relatable character who is passionate, angry, loving, friendly, and compassionate. He is human and reacts like one.
I hate how overshadowed Barrett is by some of his compatriots. Kingdom Hearts for example doesn’t even bother to include Barrett in any of the games despite Cid and Yuffie being reoccurring characters
