isopropanol should be able to take sharpie / permanent pen off. Athough does it take the Lego printing off as well ?
There aren't any Mermaids in Lord Of The Rings. You're mixing that up with Pirates Of The Caribbean. The 2000s was a cavalcade of wild fantasy IP, though, so it is somewhat of a blur.

You said sharpie ruined a fig. Use a dry erase marker. Color over the sharpie and wipe it off. Both the sharpie and the dry erase come off. Do it all the time.
