Looks like the same weather today from 80 years ago.
Great presentation. Always enjoy these.
Great Show Woody! Get some kip and โIโll see you on the beachโ for tomorrowโs shows! ( great seeing Ben too!)
@31:xx; excellent!! In stitches!!! Thanks mate.
Thanks for your dedication – great report๐
Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
Thanks for this Woody. Makes me miss Normandy. Wish I could be there for all the craziness.
Would love to go on the 5th or 6th, but then not a fan of big crowds.
Knowing as much detail as you know and living right in the heart of the events of June1944, this must be a particularly poignant couple of days for you Paul. Thank you for doing what you do. Your body of work is such an important super-detailed resource on every aspect of WW2 and I hope that your channel one day achieves the international recognition that it deserves.
It is about celebrating freedom.
Thank you Paul. I am one that may never be able to visit so watching this is amazing.
Thanks Paul for this. I had no idea who many of the BOB were because it's been over 20 years, people change.
Soz I missed 'live' broadcast. Woody, you are right about memorials educating. When we came over last year, only two of us (one serving ) had any real knowledge of the sites we visited. A great deal of mine came from you and WW2TV. It was noticeable how much the other guys in our group read the details at some of these memorials.
Great photos Woody
Great programme, but why do American sergeants wear their stripes upside-down?
Brilliant paul…those photos ๐
Dear Paul, I can't thank you enough for letting us participate in the atmosphere of this day.
I don't know if I will ever be able to visit Normandy on D-Day (I strongly hope I will make someday during another time of the year), and therefore it is so great to see your pictures and hear your narration. All the best, Peter
I love that you are on fire right now ๐ Sadly I cant be there but I will do my usual DDay routine. No Joking. I am 30 now and have a routine of games and movies I watch every single year on DDay: Company of Heroes first 2 missions, Medal of Honor Frontline+Vanguard (Playstation 2), Brothers in Arms Road to Hill 30+ Earned in Blood, Band of Brothers first 2 or 3 episodes, Longes Day Movie ๐
P.S.: Blessent mon coeur d'une langueur monotone
Your free-ranging rifts always hit the right notes, Woody.
I found your channel a year ago while watching JD's channel and wanted to thank you for the depth of topics, the variety and the enthusiasm you bring to your channel. My WW2 library has been greatly expanded since every show you do makes me hungry to read more whatever you just discussed. Next year Normandy, when the anniversary crowds are gone and I can follow the footsteps of a small unit that landed and fought their way inland. Watching your lives during D-Day + 80 years is a real treat. Cheers.
I was not able to view this one live, but loved all the photos you took, especially of the great veterans. When I saw you with Liberty and Faith I was so happy. I support their work in a modest way. Seeing Faith in her SOE Agent costume was marvelous, and reminded me of "Mission France" which I am finally reading through. That she even performed a jump, as did those brave women was an act of bravery in itself. I shall add a small super thanks after my comments Woody. Have a meal or a pint (not too many) or two on me.
Thanks!
My uncle was first wave on Juno. He was one of the soldiers who followed that tank that did the deep penetration that night.
Well shit. How do I seem to keep missing these "thoughts" from Woody…?
Thanks Woody, great show, can certainly see you're on a high
Thank you๐
Thanks!
Good show, Woody; enjoyed it.
Thanks for a great day, and a quick lesson about the porpoise pallet! Artillery is the queen of any๐ฎ battlefield, always good to find an artillery piece preserved this well.
Your stories over lunch would be inspiring to younger historians and history buffs. Think about sharing some of those stories some time in the future.
I would have loved to have been in Normandy for this anniversary but decided to pass on it because of the craziness. I have been to Normandy several times since 2006 but never on or around the 6th of June.
I'm hoping to be there next year when it's not so crazy.
The world leaders bit is GREAT
You didn't just pay that cash donation forward, you pay it forward with every show.
Hope you have a good day tomorrow Paul! ๐
Thank you for doing all this for us!
Just to say all your efforts are massively appreciated, Woody. Get some kip and I'll see you in the morning. Ham and Jam.
Lol that king charles joke and impression xD haha nice one
Lovely rambling! Get your knapper down.
Thank you, Woody. This was wonderful.
Thank you for such great coverage leading up to tomorrow!
Thanks for letting us get a feeling of actually being there. Another great presentation ๐
Good show, especially hearing about Penny Howard and Den Brotheridge's daughter taking part in the commemoration at Pegasus Bridge.
Chances are that I'll never get to Europe to see all those places I've read about over the past 60 years, so your efforts and enthusiasm are much appreciated.
Woody you are doing good work. Dont listen to the nay sayers.
We need to learn about history to honour our forebears and to stop future wars.
But as we have seen, we never will stop wars.
Keep doing the great work Woody ๐๐ป๐ช
keep up the good work, your doing an excellent job in keeping the memories alive of what these amazing veterans did
That's the memorial to my Dad's 86th Herts Yeo Fd Regt RA who landed on Gold King Green, 69th Brigade, in support of 6th Green Howards. Major Kiln, whose son paid for this memorial, was 342Bty commander – badly injured at Antwerp 7 Sept 44 and lost a leg. Replaced by Major Neville Whitmee for Market Garden.
