I got them for a reason, I guess?

This is Super Paper Mario, the last “good?” Paper Mario game!
The second playthrough in our out of order conquest to casually relive all Paper Mario games, together with my co-comm Lenny!

Just like the Super Mario RPG playthrough; if there’s any cool secrets, obscure or funny dialogue and details you know about, be sure to tell us in the comments or on Discord. I know a lot about this game, but there’s no way I know everything!

  1. I never got why they added so much flavor text. it's not like in other paper mario games where you can tattle them, just you can get enemies cards, and after wards might choose to read them

  2. Dark backya cursyas are actually unused enemies, which suggests that somehow, at some point, the SPM dev team thought that'd be a good idea.

Glad they were able to regain their sanity.

  3. The best Super Paper Mario video.

Just enough jumpscares that you never truly feel safe, as if Fatguy, Lenny, and Dark all found your house and know what you did. Yet the relaxing music is just calm enough that you forget the fear.

    Then it happens.
    It always happens.
    You're never safe.

english translations sometimes have unique lore
for example, the mushroom king, peach's father, was mentioned in the english manual of super mario bros, but not the japanese

    EDIT:
    added "sometimes"

    EDIT EDIT:
there's this 1993 nintendo character guide, which gives detailed descriptions of various nintendo characters
i've been aware of it for a bit now, solely because the mario section is genuinely bad_a$$
however on rereading it, i found this line
"The daughter of the Mushroom King led a charmed life until the Koopa's invaded."
so the mushroom king does exist in the japanese storyline…
    i thought that was weird

  6. You know what would have been an amazing idea? Although this game didn't put any Dark Back Cursyas in the game, which sounds like good design since you don't want to waste the player's time, there's one place they should have put them. Put them in one of the earliest floors in the Pit. Probably like Floor 3 or 4 or something. Set a bunch of them right next to the player's entrance door so they'll get hit by one within a second or two if they don't react quickly. You minimize time waste this way. Then, don't place any more Dark Back Cursyas in the Flopside Pit, but increase the number of other Dark Cursya types in the Pit. You'll keep the player on their toes, terrified, through the rest of the run even though they aren't truly at risk of being sent back in this manner.
