  1. All the Kingdoms of the World would — on the surface — seem to be an open-minded exploration of the subject, but why do I have the sneaking suspicion it's a screen for Christian apologetics? Surely by the end of the book the author will have 'demonstrated' (interesting word in this context) that her own religion is the right path for American society at this point. This has the stink of duplicity.

  2. Definitely making a note of “A Volga Tale.” My ancestors on my mother’s side of the family were Germans from Russia, and I’ve heard some interesting and hair-raising stories about their journey to the United States. There is a lot of interesting historical information on this group of people through North Dakota State University. Anyway, I was really tickled to see this book, I have never read a novel set in that time and place.
