Beating Tears of the Kingdom without using Breath of the Wild items (Part 2)

This part 2 of 3, so if you’ve not seen part 1, here it is:

Be sure to subscribe if you want more Zelda content, I’m always up for it, especially since my Pokémon series that propelled the channel from 15 subscribers to over 8,000 only has a few more episodes to go.

In this challenge, I must complete The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom without ever using any items that existed in Breath of the Wild. In this video, I attempted to beat all of the Temples. It was a very fun, not at all frustrating experience.

The rules are as follows:
-BotW weapons cannot be used to attack and can’t have anything fused to them
-BotW shields cannot be used to defend and can’t have anything fused to them
-BotW bows cannot be used for anything, and arrows just can’t be used at all
-BotW armour cannot be worn or upgraded
-BotW materials cannot be fused, consumed or cooked
-BotW food and elixirs cannot be consumed or made
-BotW key items can’t be used at all
-Heart Containers, Stamina, Rupees and Small Keys are all allowed as they don’t appear as physical inventory items
-Intact weapons are still disallowed even though their names are different
-BotW items that are the exact same but with just a name change or look/function a little bit different are still not allowed
-BotW items cannot be sold or exchanged
-No amiibo are allowed
-Glitch items are allowed even if they are similar to existing BotW items
-Any glitches are completely fine, as long as they don’t violate the number one rule of no BotW items

If you want to get your fill of other silly stuff to watch, here’s a playlist where I am obtaining every Pokémon in Pokédex order:

  1. I saw the notification for this video while I was driving, I got too excited and crashed my car. I survived 12 hours of lifesaving surgery due to this video giving me the strength to live. Thank you Kiwi for saving my life.

  2. Random fact: I did actually get onto the thundercloud island blind on my first (and only) playthrough. Once I got there I wandered around a bit, realized I couldn't get rid of the cloud cover from there, and looked up what quest line I missed for that so I could do it properly. Getting the Spirit Mech was probably my highlight of the entire game.

  3. I feel like there could be some arguement for special fused arrows so you could do the other two temples, but still other loving this dumb challenge. have fun learning to damage cancel throw against dragon gannon.

  4. You can have a bit of an easier time getting to dragonhead island. There's a waterfall with a sky rock right below it that will bring you directly there. You can actually skip the heart door too by ascending through the floor below, which matters for my personal approach of never having more than 3 hearts.

  5. i actually did go straight to thunderhead isles by accident in my first totk playthrough; i sped through purahs dialogue after the puppet ganon fight in hyrule castle and missed where i was supposed to go, and i noticed an area in the sky i hadnt explored and found it+ navigated blindly to minerus mask

  6. Spirit temple doesn't require the quest, but does require the paraglider for some reason?? I can't even fathom why that's the case.

I totally stumbled on because I was drawn in by that big black cloud screaming "Come explore me now!" Got in no problem, did lightning temple afterward, and found out when later doing the quest that I had inadvertently done a sequence break. Made the quest a whole lot less impactful but discovering a fifth temple by complete accident was so memorable!

  7. Fun fact about the Spirit Temple, it's 100% possible juat to stumble across the Construct Factory and the Temple in the Depths without doing everything else. This happened to me my first playthrough early on and spoiled more than half the plot for me 😭

  8. This series could be much more interesting if not for the unnecessary 'no paraglider' restrictions. It was intriguing before the dialogue with Purah. Seriously, it all just comes down to finding solutions around this main problem. Everything else becomes meaningless.
