  1. Thank you! This was a lot of fun to watch (and some new info seeing as I have not done any ultimates). Some small, early horrors include things like the imprisoning of the Copperbell Mines giants, the facewearing of the mistress of Haukke Manor. Then the sprinkling of abductions ala Sastasha, and war crimes like Bittermill and the developement of Black Rose. FFXIV has a lot of stellar world building, including the terrible things that befall people in the course of it's histories. It makes the world feel alive, that these things are happening, good or bad, independant of the events the wol takes part in or was around for.

  2. I dont know why I did this, maybe queue times, but I distinctly remember being able to see Edda's party as talkable npcs in front of a couple of earlier dungeons such as copperbell mines (and maybe sastasha?) talking about going in and how we JUST beat them to it after the fact for both dungeons. So it was a more defining memory of my experience through the story when that cutscene played out where one of them died as I had kinda hoped they would be npcs showing up at each dungeon for some fun pseudo-rival dialogue.

  3. Good examples, all. The only one of those I haven't experienced is the alternate timeline with Thordan, but I might try it sometime soon. Was a bit surprised you didn't include the one supreme horror from Shadowbringers, though. It's one of the most viscerally-disturbing scenes in the entire game, and it just keeps right on getting worse in the Switch.

  4. What makes the Story of Edda even more disturbing and sad imo, is the Music when you fight her in PotD. I had someone point out that the laughter you hear could very well just be crying instead. Try listening to it with this idea

  5. The thing with the Thordan Ultimate is that it takes extreme liberties with what happens. We arrived before Thordan in the Core even if we were slow there’s no way he would be able to absorb the warring triad before we got there.

  6. You actually meet Edda's party before Tam Tara. You first find them outside Sastasha, ganging up on Edda for not being able to afford healing potions for the whole party with her cut of the adventuring profits.

  7. Gonna be that need for a bit, but IF you pay attention to your surroundings, the game foreshadows Edda's party's fall, the first time you see them is in your first time to Limsa where the party is about to go into the dungeon there, and the lalafelle tells her to get potions and the whole party but her leaves before she can ask them where to get them, a few quests later before copperbell mines, you can see them in front of the mines with Edda out of breath asking why she only got Two potions, with her saying they didnt give her any money, you actually pass by them and clear the mines before they are able to recover, and when you come out the tank curses and says they were too late, and the elezan blames Edda for them not being able to get in first, I believe they would have died in the mines if the WOL Didn't get there, so as a recap so far the ditch Edda and blame her for things they could have helped with, at this point you dont see them until you go to gridania and at the guild they get the job to go to the deepcroft, see you and rush off without preparing, assuming you are there for the same reason, while you are there for something else entirely, All while Edda calls out, saying they need more items and they need to prepare before running off ofter them, after you are done with the quest you were doing and return to the adventurer guild in gridania, you get the cutscene of the party, now tankless, blaming Edda for the tanks death, you learn in deepcroft Hard that the Lalafelle was a coward and ran after the first batch of enemies, the Elezan hogged all of the health potions, all 2 because they didn't prepare passed where they were at the mines, And the tank Ran ahead like a madman without Edda and the Elezan, where he was overwhelmed and killed, Edda could only retrieve his head before they were forced to leave, the only one who makes it out of the deepcroft it the Lalafelle who tries to once again blame Edda, bit you actually lambaste him and tell him that the tank died a needless death because of his own stupidity and they all should have listened to Edda, he then walks away dejected, you can see him for a while at a bar complaining that no one will let him join their party now, and someone else responds "yeah, after what you did to your last one, I am not surprised" so word got out that he basically was a coward and drove his healer to death

  8. another layer to the parties dynamic is that the elezen archer of the party was jealous of Edda mainly because she wanted Avere to herself, so she would sabotage their relationship in hopes of tearing them apart to take Avere. wouldn't suprise me that his sudden sprinting out of range, probably due to the archer possibly puffing up his ego, in order to make Edda look bad as a healer. also the reason why she was extremely hostile towards Edda after Avere's death.

  9. Can you talk about horrifying side quests and FATEs
I give one example of each
    – In Azim Steppe at the Reunion is a quest called STRANGER DANGER
You meet an Aura woman that claims to be the kindergarten babysitter of the Reunion. You help her find 3 "missing" children and with each encounter they mention that they don't think they are lost but ok because you look trustworthy.
At the end the "babysitter" turns out to be a child trafficer that sells kids based of how strong is a tribe there, so yeah you were an accomplice to child trafficking and you cannot do anything about it
    – The fate in Churning mist is called WHOLE FOOD
"No, the frantinc flurry of "kupos" you hear is not your imagination, but the sound of unlucky moogle swallowed whole by a Abelisk( T-rex looking mob). Help slice open a path to freedom before the big lizard's bile does its work"
What's awful about it that while you fight the fate you can see "…ku..po?" speech bubbles coming the t-rex mouth and also another moogle search for it's friend hearing the cries.
By the time you finish the fate the search moogle says
"There's nothing in here but a bunch of bones and fur! Where could my friend be?"

  10. Varis is one of the most tragic character when you think about it. Rising to power after a civil war. Puppet to the ascians, killed by this own son triggering another civil war and the fall from grace of the empire, only to be chopped up and raised as a monstrosity. Forced to destroy what few remains of his beloved empire in his dying breath.

  11. Nice video just that you overlook that we meet Edda on Satasha and also there is another story people tend to overlook. For centuries dragon kind was slaved and torture inside dalamud for eons to keep the primal Bahamut alive. We can see them on the coils as their bodies are still trapped in the allagans tube like prisions. I think they deseve their story to be told that yes dalamud was a prision for Bahamut but along side him there were his kind , his sons and daugthers that keep this primal alive. Nice video!

  12. god, Edda's story… i remember when I starteed, first seeing the group and getting angry, but obviously unable to do anything. Because as a healer myself at the time, I knew what it was like to have your tank rush off before you can think, so the group ganging on Edda surprised me. But when I saw them again by another dungeon, i kinda grew excited, because I wanted to see the group grow and be strong together, just like I was… then, the scene happened. Of the others angry and Edda, their tank missing, and the horror I felt when the archer mentioned for edda to stop carrying his head… god I felt so helpless, especially as we talked. Trying to help her move past this, for her to find a new group- a better group.

I remember later on, after everything that happened. Having just finished the lv50 MSQ, I was walking the streets of Ul'dah, and i remember distintly thinking 'Hm, I haven't seen Edda in a long while! I hope she's doing alright, and managed to find a new party, or a new life…'. Course, then I noticed the lalafell offering a quest, and I approached, thinking nothing of it, until he confessed he was the THM from her party… and earing what he had to say, I had that sick feeling again. I've always felt bad for her, as if I failed her.
Meeting her one last time in the Palace of the Dead, freeing her spirit once and for all, and finally puttting her and Avere's soul to rest… It wasn't much, but I felt like I could finally atone for not being able to help them back then.

  13. I'm not sure if anyone else here has ever seen Edda's ghost, but it really is possible. However it's very rare. As long as you haven't completed POTD, but have done Tam Tara Hard, you have a small chance of seeing her at night or during rainstorms. It's VERY rare and I only saw or noticed her once in the several years between my finishing Tam Tara Hard and finishing the quest portion of POTD.

  14. One thing about the leafman most are actually people of ole who were about to transform into a sin eater. Beside the enemy chasing us, wonder how many are of travelers.

  15. Whats even worse about the Dragonsong Reprise(Ultimate) is that since Hraesvulgr is the one that died in that alternate timeline of Heavensward, What happens in the Omega Raid now that Midgardsormr can't call who is deceased to save you after the defeat of Omega?

  16. If you do the newest weekly crafting NPC you get a bit more context on the Leafmen. The Pixies, being created by the spirits of dead children, aren't necessarily evil but do not understand what is right from wrong and act purely on emotion (like a child would). The leafmen were created in an attempt to keep people safe from becoming sineaters. Pixies don't really understand why its a bad thing, since in their eyes they kept their human friends safe and will be with them forever. Creepy and sad but not done out of malice.

  17. Another disturbing thing in Ill Meg and in Sharlyan is the Beaver side quests. Apparently if you become satisfied by what they offer you, you turn into one yourself. Even the pixies were turning into them
