1948 Chevy Barnfind “Will it Run and Drive?”

I recently had the opportunity to see if we could get this 1948 Chevy Fleetline Sportmaster Sedan running and drive it home. The car has sat for over 20 years. Follow along with me and see if Mr. Vintage can get it done?

  1. Looking good as it is with the potential to be a real beauty like the Oldsmobile. And I'm one of those rare individuals who prefers 4 door cars. I started out with a 66 Catalina wagon and got hooked on the practicality.

  3. The master cylinder for the brakes is under the driver floor and is accessible by opening up the square plate and opening you can then take the cap off and add fluid. I bled the brakes on my 47 myself by filling the cylinder, pumping up and then opening each bleeder on each wheel one at a time until all were bled. The pedal will go down by itself when opening the bleeder. This is a trick I got over on my Dad and he said “ Well I’ll be “. lol 😅

  4. This is the Fleetline Sportmaster sedan. The other Fleetline is the Aerosedan commonly called "fastback". All trim is the same just different models. These were pretty much top of the line sedans.

  5. Change the oil, clean the oil filter, lubricate ALL grease fittings, and clean or replace what needs to be done regarding the fuel system. Inspect every inch of the electrical wiring system. Fumeigate and thoroughly clean the interior and put mothball boxes under the seats and in the glove box. Mice cannot stand the scent of mothballs!
