Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is wild (first hour gameplay)

Streamed the first hour of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom on Twitch! I streamed another two after this, and my feelings are the same as they are throughout this video.

  1. I am the same. I cant tell if the crafting gimmick appeals to me. I loved original Orcarina of Time, but wasnt obsessed with Wind Walker or BoTW. Intrigued to hear Alannah's overall view.

  2. lol it is really a shame the switch is not powerful enough for this game to run 4k 60fps with better textures I just beat it and it's amazing I think it's probably the best story in a Zelda game I've seen

  3. Very much agree when you said how important it is to be able to read previous conversations!! Developers don’t pay enough attention to that

  4. I’m a good 6 hours in and I love this game. The opening was very epic. It doesn’t need 5 hours of build up. The views and draw distance is surprising for a switch and the clouds are awesome. Don’t get me wrong you know it’s a switch game but even for a switch game the art style makes it sing beyond what it should

  5. It makes Breath of the Wild feel like a demo by comparison. So much stuff to do:

    SPOILERS

    -Main Story
-Side Quests, both big and small
    -Finding and exploring caves
    -Finding and exploring wells
    -Shrines
    -Korok Seeds
    -Hunting for armor pieces
    -Questing for towers
    -Monster Raids
    -Hunting for big monsters
    -Taming horses
    -Messing with the building possibilities
    -Exploring Sky Islands
    -Mapping out the Depths

And that's just from the stuff that I'm aware of while farting around in Central Hyrule for the first 5-10 hours. I only just worked my way down to Kakariko village.

  6. I’m so incredibly bitter about this game. Crafting sure, even sticking whatever lies around or whatever I carry to my weapons so that they don’t break if I decide to actually risk using them sure. But building cars, flying machines and robots!? Did anyone enjoy the part where Frodo, Sam and Gollum rammed the gates of Mordor with a car? Oh right, it never happened… Neither should building cars, flying machine or robots have! It’s supposed to be a medieval fantasy game not a battery powered vehicle building game! I’ve even seen people create penises that shoots fire… Funny yes, but is that really what passes as a Zelda game these days?

It's just too bad cause there are parts of this game that look really interesting.

  7. Hardware is unfortunately old… unfortunately people are just a bit too spoiled these days. I've been playing it and it doesn't bother me one bit. Everyone wants state of the art graphics or it's not good enough. It's such a shame.

  8. Don't own a Switch, but could change that. Never played any Zelda. I play a lot of BioWare, Bethesda, Ubisoft. Hmm. Wonder if I would like this (well, BoTW first I guess).

  9. Some of the complaints are so unwarranted. 1. U can look at a ps2 and see that some of them still look amazing even with restricted tech. Botw and ToTK have industry best art direction and look great despite the low tech

    2. Weapon auto swap would be a TERRIBLE game design decision. Imagine it swapping to something like an explosive weapon and blowing up urself.

Some things ppl want just takes a sec to understand why the devs did it the way they did

  10. Is there a menu somewhere that allows color adjustments to be made?

I am colorblind (deuteranopia) and the color scheme makes it extremely difficult for me to see the game clearly to play. I've had very few problems like this with other Zelda games, but this one gives me headaches. Other than that; so far, so good.

  11. I personally feel that the prologue of this game is one of the greatest video game experiences I've had in a very, very long time. I took over three hours in Great Sky Island, just taking it all in. Even many hours in, I find myself teleporting back for resources, or just to enjoy it again.

  12. I think a lot of people are playing the switch on their super 4k monitors and complaining about the looks, play on a native 1080p screen and it completely changes the look.

  13. How did they do this? To me it’s just stunning how much you can do with this toolbox. You can lift a rock then Rewind it then ascend through the rock. What? And there is so much of it! Honestly don’t understand how they were able to do this in 5 years time. The game went way beyond my expectations. This game is blowing my mind.

  14. It would bother me if the game auto-equipped a weapon that i didnt want to use yet, then i'd just have to manually equip the one I want to use anyway πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

  15. I know she said she likes weapon degradation but i think thats for contrarian's sake bc all she is doing is complaining about everything that comes along with it that was already in breath of the wild πŸ’€

  16. Alanah: "i dont like all the hand holding so far"

    2 minutes later

Also Alanah: "it's crazy that i cant move this plank any further forward"

Maybe we should just accept tutorial sections for what they are, and embrace that maybe we do need to be taught a lot at the beginning
