The Final Fantasy 16 battle system sounds worryingly like The Last Remnant.
Cosmic fantasy had FOUR games and only 2 are in that collection so not worth it…star ocean second story is one of the 2 only good star oceans and YS Should never have had a party system…

Hopefully FF16 is similar to Kingdom Hearts with its party mechanics. I think they did consult the KH team while making 16. I would be down with NPC party members who I could setup like Donald and Goofy!
Ys X is my most anticipated game next to Dragon Quest 12 and 3Remake.

hope the .hack rumor is true. That cost for the original PS2 collection is just as ridiculous as stated. I think the store down the street from me (only one I have seen in the state that has all 4) was pushing 1000 dollars used.
FromSoftware is one of my favorite companies period but I can never get into any clone of them. They just dont do it right so Ys going in that direction, I dont have too much hope for.
Final fantasy hasn't been for me after FFX. I keep a watch out but haven't bought a title since. It's a dead franchise for me.

yeah 16 looks just…awful. taking the guy that was put in charge of 14s realm reborn was the final nail in the coffin for me. i've never played a more homogenized, bland, uninspiring game then 14, and im' sure that will translate over to 16
Of course every long going series needs to turn into a soul like, I mean, every gamer is a souls enjoyer right? Who would want something simple, fun, colorful and as boring as turn based with cool party members? Now excuse me while I go play Yakuza Like a Dragon.
The thing with Dark Souls, Bloodborne, Elden Ring ( only From Software games I have played and beaten) it is about over coming obstacles that seem impossible at first. Much like life, not every thing is going to be sunshine and rainbows. But when you are able to overcome the obstacles in those games you get a feeling that can't be matched by any other game. I personally think it is a good thing to apply to real life. Just my opinion.
I'm glad that Ys is doing so well as a series these days. I am also in the group that has enjoyed the move to party based battles. The first games were great action RPGs for their time, except for Ys 5 which isn't very good IMO. With the addition of party members the story in each game has been able to become that much more involved as everyone has a unique role, goals, reactions, and personalities. The battles have become that much more interesting too with different characters having different specialties, skill sets, movement, and so on. The party adds so much to these Ys games. I don't want to see it go back to Adol alone where the game is a Zelda clone with RPG elements.
God I HOPE to hell we get a original game collection. My OG collection got stolen and I havnt had it in me to pay the ridiculous price to reaquire them.
I'm surprised you didn't mention the fact that the "axe wielding girl" is almost definitely referring to the protagonist of ys origin. Adol being younger also most likely suggests that Rhea and Feena will there just like they were in ys origins as well.

I'd say wait before jumping to conclusion, my God this is getting a bit annoying, it's like when they announce Kuro No Kiseki's gameplay would feature some real-time feature, and everyone freaked out cause they jumped to conclusion and thought they were gonna make it an Action RPG which turn out wasn't the case at all, calm down and wait for actual footage of the game.
They claim they're gonna take "some" element of Souls game doesn't mean they're gonna turn it into a Dark Souls, or for that matter they're gonna make it as hard as a Souls (heck knowing Falcom they'll probably put Easy mode anyway, like they always do).
My guess from what they're saying is they're gonna put some sort of Stamina Bar to prevent player for recklessly spamming attack, and be more carefull to dodge and parry… which isn't something Souls invented it's a system that exist in other games before like Monster Hunter.

Technically a party of 1 would be a nontraditional party system lol
