Another new world record speedrun! Zophar (founder of emulation archive Zophar’s Domain) took the “Random Seed, Any%” world record on 10.15.23 from Mechalink in the infamous 1995 RPG, Virtual Hydlide for the Sega Saturn.
This was played on original Saturn hardware using the US release of the game and uses several strategies I devised for random seeds specifically, including purchasing 1 Fairy Tears from the store to escape from the Sealed Dungeon quickly, and recognizing ahead of time where locations would be. The run has plenty of mistakes (dying unintentionally in the ruins, going the wrong way multiple times) but it was good enough for the record. This was entered onto speedrun.com in the Random Seed, Any% category.
