A reminder was published for the powder of the right brand Kaempferia Galanga due to contamination by the aconitine. Aconitine toxin comes from the roots of the toxic monkshood factory, also known as Wolfsbane or Keampfeira. The Canadian Food Inspection Agency says that the product recalled, which is a current spice in Asian cuisine and is also called Sand Ginger Power, has been sold in British Columbia, Alberta, Ontario and Quebec, and may have been distributed in other provinces and territories. Symptoms associated with aconite poisoning may include nausea, vomiting, dizziness, weakness, irregular cardiac rhythms and in serious cases ,. The recalled product is linked to a food poisoning survey where 12 guests ate in a restaurant in Markham, in last Ontario, have become seriously sick, three of whom remain in intensive care in the hospital. In March, the Poison Information Center of British Columbia and the Fraser Health Authority warned the public not to consume ginger powder of sandy molds after two people were hospitalized and then recovered. This Canadian press report was published for the first time on September 2, 2022.
