The Occultea Tag is a discussion between content creators of the witchcraft community that was spurred by Joanna @polishfolkwitch Ella @EllaHarrison and Leah @theredheadedwitch In this video I go over the last three points of discussion in regard to imposter syndrome and FOMO in the witchcraft online community, people who capitalise on the community and make witchcraft their job, paywalls and y thoughts on how the witchcraft community could improve especially in terms of acknowledging our privileges and putting them at the service of those who are more marginalised than ourselves.
Joanna @polishfolkwitch has gathered most of the entries in the tag in this neat playlist, check it out! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ffqdChfKLug&list=PLAw3vy9Ilr16NCaxl56T-TnSZxCOyrKzR&pp=iAQB

Hail 🤘❤ love the insight and understanding.
Enjoying. Really glad you mentioned that nature is a privilege under capitalism. Those who always had access don’t get it. Such is privilege. But I saw most of these questions as being an issue of capitalism
oh my gosh I'm loving your thoughts on anti-consumerism and why it appeals to people in the occult sphere especially. I've been researching anti-consumerism to write a zine on this exact subject and the way you put some of the reasoning is so perfect. The paradoxical nature of saying "I love nature and I don't use plastic in my craft" while also buying mass produced tarot cards coated in plastic or a sweat shop "tapestry" for their altar cloth is something I've been trying to wrap my head around, but your thoughts on it have definitely cleared some things up for me. It really does seem like buying tools or items that fit into the witchy aesthetic are a way to kind of bypass or jump forward with how dedicated other people might perceive you to be.
Also, if I wanted to be part of your witches for Palestine thing, does it matter I have no desire to have a platform or have none now?
Just gonna repeat myself here but I'm so grateful for your participation in this & sharing your perspective. I especially love how you talk about consumerism & capitalism, siblinghood and looking down the ladder to elevate those around us who most need it, not those who already made it. You absolutely nailed it when you said that imposter syndrome comes with a position of privilege! 👏
Question for both Ysha and the community here: Critical thinking is often, in my experience, assumed to be along the lines of "common sense," when they aren't the same at all. Ysha, if you have a video like this, forgive me – I'm still catching up. How can we better teach critical thinking to our peers/ourselves?
I do not feel that critical thinking was taught in the duration of my scholastic career and, as such, pursued critical thinking tips, tricks, etc. as an adult. After all, critical thinking gives you agency and therefore makes you less "controllable." Interestingly enough, I've known people who have rejected the suggestion of thinking critically due to being afraid of such agency; it's far easier to have someone else do the thinking, the acting, etc. and to play the powerless card when things go amok.
Looking forward to the conversation!
As always great insight ❤ and thank you so much for the mention!!! I appreciate you! And happy to here your thoughts on this tag ❤
I am so happy you made this second part and thank you for the shoutout. What you said about imposter syndrome is very astute; that it is quite telling and that it should lead one to question if perhaps it is because they are in a position of privilege. I especially love what you said about siblinghood and your values on "looking down the ladder" and to elevate those around us who most need it, not those who already made it. "We rise by lifting others." (Robert Ingersoll) Abbracci forti xoxo
I'm here for anti-consumerism, anti-capitalist stuff! 😹 Learning is definitely something actually worth putting time and resources into, but I would like to remind everyone with the privilege of library system access to make use of it! There may not only be great books, but at least here in the US, systems often offer access to other resources like online courses and academic journals! While it's not witchy, I am currently reading a book I found at my local library called Decolonial Marxism by Walter Rodney.
Great pt 2 of this tag. Thank you for your thoughts! ✨
So grateful to be in siblinghood with you, hearing someone in this space talk so fully about consumerism and capitalism and intersectionality makes my heart sing.
I’m sorry anyone has told you that you should make more “palatable” content, I think the niche you’ve carved out is so deeply necessary and your presence calls us all in to take a stronger stance on what is important.
I enjoyed this so much! Your thoughts on consumerism and paywalled spaces were super impactful for me.
When you said “imposter syndrome comes from a place of privilege…” wheeeeow that’s a heavy one 🙌🏽 this is so real!
Thank you for sharing and for joining your voice to this tag! I appreciate you. I’m definitely looking forward to your next videos.
Even better than part 1! Thanks again for a SECOND shout out like aaaaa 🥺💗
I do feel a bit guilty though, because in my last video I touched on the fact that I don't want to make research based videos very often (namely, they take a lot of time, spoons, planning, and doubt to overcome in order to do them and it was making me stagnate on creating. I still will make research based video essays like the Intuition vid, but def not on a regular basis)
