Why Velma is Winning

The show everyone dislikes. Is it bad, or was it made to be bad? Or is it sorta good but so insulting that we don’t care because, I mean, c’mon look at it. I’m here to explain why Velma is actually performing really well and why you all got played.

  1. It was never meant to be Scooby-Doo. Mindy went to them with her show, and hbo realized it would sell better if they slapped a Scooby skin on it. Basically, they knew we would hate watch it.

  2. I forget who said this and where, but I saw someone had a theory that originally this show wasn’t going to have Scooby-Doo characters at all but WB forced the creators to add them and I’m starting to think that’s true. Just like they said in the vid if you take the Scooby-Doo parts out it’s a perfectly fine show and everyone would love it. But we didn’t get that and instead got this show with a Scooby-Doo shaped tumor on it and it’s just frustrating.

  3. You should totally watch Scooby-Doo mystery incorporated. It's kinda like a dark Scooby-Doo that's way better then this I mean it's not perfect nope some of the writing is actually really weird/ bad but it is slightly more serious and fun and has an over aching mystery that spands the whole show and isn't actually half bad^^

  4. What's most disappointing about Velma is that it has all the barebones of things I desire. All-Star and diverse voice cast of proven actors & actresses, a modern take on the Scooby gang, and stylized animation.

When actually watching the series, I found it easier to just listen to the voice acting–which then became an issue because it is a cartoon and not a podcast. That being said, the first two episodes have the most fluid animation as well as the finale in a critical climax–which, is unfortunate.

Its greatest flaw, imho, is the insistence of hitting x plot points within a single episode. The first two episodes are especially terrible for its pure speed-run method, with only a single beat of silence after Norville's "I don't do drugs" bit. The only episode that has decent pacing, is the 7th episode.

And the other great flaw is the lack of making a fulfilling mystery story, but its my bad for assuming a modern adaptation of teenagers solving mysteries would even HAVE a good mystery.

  5. This is only a temporary win for them. All this will do is unite the internet and have everyone cone together to get the show cancelled and have Warner Brothers pay for their crimes against humanity.

  6. Yeah, the overhatred of the show did nothing but get it renewed! We need to just ignore it and stop watching if we want to end eventually probably! No use continuing to watching we hate, it only makes it worse if we do so! I never tuned in for this show at all and it got very divisive among everybody! People have pretty much talked about it and how much they hate it and how cringey and unfunny the dialogue for it is! This is a total disaster and it's what they wanted to do to you all along! They wanted to make fans of Scooby-Doo! mad so that they could make a season 2 of this show! It's such an awful show and it should be cancelled immediately please!

  7. Remember when the way to piss people off and generate controversy was with satanism, public nudity, and reminding people that vaginas exist? We should go back to that, I bet it'd still work, you just gotta update it a little.

  8. Me and my friends came up with a parody of Riverdale that was based on magic school bus, where someone gets murdered and the kids, who are now gay teens, have to figure it out. It was actually pretty good, and I was hopping this show was gonna be like that.

  9. You did not just put Bojack Horseman in the same realm as fuckin big mouth and rick & morty??? If you haven't watched the series please don't compare it to other series while making a review? It makes it seem like you genuinely don't watch things at all or all the way through

  10. I think my main issue with Shaggy becoming Norville is that he hates something that was so essential to his character. Also the implication that he can't be Black and a stoner because of respectability politics :/ I hate when creators feel like they have to sanitize Black characters to avoid controversy, it makes me feel like I can't have any flaws or I'll be a stereotype…

  11. Totally couldn't agree with you more! I saw myself really liking the show once I released that it wasn't Scooby-Doo in any capacity. Especially since the creator said that it was an original pitch and HBO said they wanted to use the Scooby-Doo franchise to help elevate it. Great points! Love your videos.

  12. I'm a die-hard Scooby-Doo fan, so I just treat this show like it's in its own lane. Honestly, I didn't hate the show, so I shall be watching season 2. Will I rewatch the seasons, absolutely not.

  13. I can personally separate the art from the artist, the Scooby Doo and the Velma; as someone who enjoys 4th wall breaks, edgy, self aware humor I really enjoy the show. I watch it every week and am excited to see a second season. For example, the animations are beautifully done and Im hoping the story plot leads to the group coming together to form the one we know and love.

  14. Bad shows should be reviewed by critics and audiences for only gettibg getting canceled or if they are allowed to have positive reviews, then they've get the green lit to have a second season
