Why Korean Dramas Are Outperforming Hollywood

Hollywood has been dropping the ball recently making shows and movies that are often rejected by their audience. While on the opposite side of the world on places like Korea and Japan, the quality of their entertainment continuous to improve and spread through the western hemisphere mainly because of the accessibility to streaming services.
Squid game, Kingdom, Sweet home and many others have captivated American viewers who are rejecting the woke content from companies like Disney in order to watch shows that respect their time and their money

  1. I deeply miss strong male characters! Then again, I'm willing to make my husband a sandwich. lol I'm too normie? 😀

I just started watching Reacher. It is amazing! I have no idea why I waited so long to watch it, but I have two seasons to binge.

Thank you for the great commentary!

  2. Hey Nacho, just pointing this out on the topic of Sub vs Dub. People who are visually impaired either have extreme difficulty or are unable to read subs. Dubs have there place even if you don't personally need or prefer them. It just makes anime more accessible to more people.

  3. My brother is a medical doctor. He watches movies from India, Spain, Mexico, France, Norway and so on on Netflix. But he doesn't care for Korean shows at all. His wife on the other hand loves watching Korean and Chinese rom-com series. Myself I can't watch too much of Korean stuff because I find their actors and actresses looking too similar. And their stories are often over the top or overly dramatic with so many convenient plot points. Right now I'm just watching old shows and movies from before 2015.

  4. You probably have never seen "Somewhere in Time" with Christopher Reeve and Jane Seymour. It's not particularly a fun or great movie. But Jane Seymour is gorgeous 😍 in it and the atmosphere and music are wonderful. I can't stand movies like Everything Everywhere All at Once or the series Beef on Netflix even though I'm Asian. So much angst from Asian Americans resenting being Asian descendants in a first-world white-majority country. On the other hand they don't care to watch anything from Asia citing they're not from Asia. Also, black Americans wanting to be in all kinds of roles white Americans can play including British royals. Sigh…

  5. Interesting story writing, in a way that doesn't have to resort to some kind of sex scene to keep things interesting.

One of the strongest female roles I know of is "strong Girl Bong Soon", a girl so strong that you never have to worry about her being beaten. And she doesn't have to improve herself and get stronger. But unlike she-hulk, Bong Soon has her own struggles, she still falls in love, she has times of weaknesses and she develops as a character, selflessly trying to make things right.

I wonder about the budget to the movie, they seem to use little CGI and the practical effects is entertaining, no matter how absurd the circumstances.
