Why Calvary Chapel Pastors Resisted Covid Tyranny Better Than Reformed Pastors

It’s hard to convince Christians that they should be Reformed, especially when Reformed pastors shut down their churches for a year and Calvary Chapel pastors fought back against civil tyranny.

  1. This was very helpful, I had not thought about confessions in the way Joel explained it, definitely will change the way I think.

I still wonder how do you have room for disagreements with them? After all they are not infallible scripture.

And some very good points about tyrannical pastors, seems to be a difficult line to walk.

  2. I get it that this is part of a bigger conversation but think the guest needs more talking time. Still didn’t get a clear answer to the title statement. In my area the 2 Calvary Chapels are at 2 and 3 services due to (I think) their defiance in closing their churches. Also, The government is quietly dropping tens of thousands in fines.

  3. Thanks gentlemen. I’m reformed but we’ve been at our local Calvary Chapel church in Chattanooga since pandemic stuff. They were the only ones here who stood up all the nonsense- and super early, like June 2020 our pastor was going off about BLM/Intersectionality/CRT/civil tyranny, and none of us had a clue about any of it then. I’m still uneasy being so deep in the church by now (being reformed), but also if it’s overall the best church in the area, what else can I do?

  4. In the USA the strict subscription actually confessional reformed churches I mostly follow did not shutdown and kept meeting.

I think the so called reformed pastors who are being talked about in this video are those who don't truly uphold a strict understanding of the regulative principle of worship. They don't believe in the establishment principle.

I wonder if any of the pastors they won't name in this video hold the strict confessional understanding of the 4th commandment which does not allow recreations on the Lord's day.

  5. Something I would love to hear your take on Pastor Joel: do you think that the last few years were a major "freedom of conscience" test precisely because our churches were so weak on that point? If so, what is the next weak point that might be tested?
