  1. The Solos seem to work just fine, from YT reviews, but the vehicles are 1 person and small storage so it's a small market. A good idea 12 years ago but not today.

  2. It's a pity that some people will denigrate "made in China" products, whether its cars, consumer electronics, white goods etc. I have family members in China that own and run manufacturing companies. From name-brand clothing, metal and or plastic componentry, light and or heavy machinery, and they all have one comment in common when doing any business with Western customers. "they don't want to pay for quality". Competition is rife in China, so the cheapest contract wins out, which is not always the best manufacturer. One day, things will change I hope. Great video and lots to think about.

You want one day Red Army invaded Australia ? Buy it! 😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅

  4. Sam! You mean you haven’t worked out the peeps in the west don’t like the truth! Hahaha 😂 look at the lying idiots they’ve been voting into power just because they tell them what they want to hear 🫣

  5. Are the Jaguar I-Pace, Toyota Supra, BMW Z4, Mercedes G-Class and Fisker Ocean Austrian cars?
They are all produced by Magna Steyr in Graz, Austria. It's called contract manufacturing, not uncommon in the vehicle industry. I'm pretty sure Jaguar, Toyota, etc own the IP on the cars, not Magna. Same with Electra Meccanica, they had their vehicle contract manufactured by Zongshen Industrial (a large Chinese motorcycle group, that also makes Piaggio & Aprilia models for the domestic market). If your G-wagon breaks down, do you call your local dealer or do you get on the phone with Austria? Yeah, the final product is the responsibility of the company that sells it to you. The Solo is a Canadian car, manufactured in China.

  6. The Top Gear TV programme involved Reliant Robin which had a single wheel at the front which is inherently unstable. In contrast, the sporty Morgan 3-wheeler has a single driving wheel at the back. They even developed an electric prototype sadly not in production – yet.

  7. It is a Canadian car. The Chinese will build the device you ordered just like you ordered it. It is your responsibility. Why would they alter something so you later can say that they didn't make it exactly as you ordered it – and then you wouldn't pay them. The Chinese got the exact blueprints of how to build it and they built it exactly that way.

Therefore this bit is sadly racist, Sam.

Canada should pay China compensation for this because the West now tries to smear China – even though it is clearly this Canadian company 's fault.

  8. These pieces of sh*t!!! They swaggered in to Mesa, opened a “factory” and pretend that they “make cars”. Come to find out.. they are just sneaking in Chinese garbage cars?!? Shameful… just shameful. They DESERVE to go out of business. I feel very sorry for anyone that took a job with them. So sad and shocking. Thanks for the information.

  9. Delta configuration (1 wheel in front, 2 in rear) 3-wheel vehicles are fairly easy to roll, especially if the center of gravity is higher. Tadpole configuration (2 wheels in front, 1 in rear) 3-wheel vehicles (Arcimoto, Aptera, Electrameccanica Solo) are much harder to roll, especially with the low center of gravity provided by a heavy battery pack beneath the floor. They may still be more prone to roll in a collision with a more massive vehicle, but should be fairly stable in normal operation (heavy wind loads, sharp downhill curves, etc.). These 3-wheel vehicles may still have other issues (cargo & passenger capacity, child safety, service & repairs, potholes, tire blowout, electrical, etc.). These 3-wheel vehicles also do not qualify for federal $7500 tax incentives in the USA, but may qualify for local incentives in some states and municipalities.

  10. There are always risks with a start up. How to service, will the company be around long term? The risks are higher if the company is in another country, and even higher if the government of that country is autocratic and erratic. It is so important that a country has a long history of being a good citizen. The US has also acted worse than usual for the last 25 years and has lots of reputational damage to repair. It will take decades of good behaviour to do so.

With the geopolitical risks now, I would not be buying a big ticket item from China. Autocrat governments are not dependable. We see this over and over again.

With the disruption risk in the automotive industry, I would also be very careful about buying a car from legacy OEMs. How long are they going to be in business? Lots has to shake out over the next 10 years.

  11. Years ago they made 3-wheeled ATVs in America. They had to stop producing them in favor of only 4-wheel ATVs. They banned the 3-wheel models as they were so unsafe. Caused a few deaths just from unexpected rollovers. 3 wheels are a bad idea.

  12. Good video mate. I think your 10,000 unsubs was due to using cheap and chinese in the same sentence. Just like you can't say Xi and Pooh in the same sentence. The chinese car costs less. It's not cheap. Because then everyone could afford one and in a face culture the only way you'd want that car is if you know your neighbor can't afford it.

  13. The three wheeler is considered a motorcycle and doesn’t have to go through crash testing expenses – which is why they do this… And why don’t you complain about the 3wheel Aptera?

  15. As others have said here, three-wheeled cars where the pair of wheels are in the front are stable. There are a number of very good ones. A single wheel in the front – that's the design you need to stay away from.

  16. The Top Gear stunts with the Reliant Robin rolling over were rigged. If you watch the programme carefully, you'll notice that the car always rolled onto the same side. Look even more closely and you'll see that the car doesn't sit level on the road. That's because they fitted a larger wheel to one side and a smaller wheel to the other, to make sure that it rolled over easily.
That said, it is possible to roll a Robin without too much difficulty, if you're at speed in a crosswind and going around a roundabout. It happened once to an old friend of mine. The damage was very minimal and easily fixed because of the fibreglass body shell. A few days later, he was driving it again, and it looked brand new.
I don't like the car, and hated travelling in them as a passenger. There is no neck restraint to the seats, the seat angle is not adjustable (very painful for my old neck injury), front leg room is minimal and your calf gets cooked by the engine heat coming through the sides of the front of the centre tunnel. They're also under-powered, noisy and smelly.
But, in their favour, they were cheap to own and run, with virtually no rust, decent fuel consumption, and very low Road Tax rates, coupled with minimal insurance costs. Being simple vehicles, they were also quite easy to maintain and modify.

  17. The unresolved recall is a diversion. While Chinese interpretations of products can be an issue, it's not always the case. The problem here was that they never built a solid foundation for consumer confidence. No proper locations, service/warranty networks, no lease/fleet programs all contributed to pathetic sales. The company is as unstable as the Solo itself. They tried to take too many shortcuts and now it's over.
