The best Monster Hunter game will no longer be buyable first hand next week. In this video I will discuss why 4 Ultimate is the best game in the series, how it impacted future games and why it’s still worth playing today.

  1. Barely updated 2nd gen AI on 2/3 of the monsters, horrific balance where only 4 weapons are good and invalidate the rest (SA, GL, and HH truly suck in this game) reused nonsensical volcano map, awful pure rng endgame investigation system?
Best game, I do not think so.
I believe 4U is easily the most overrated MH game, even if it's great it's not "the best" and had numerous problems and many people are just nostalgia blinded. "Favorite" would be a much better term rather than "best".

No gimmicks? Whats about Mounting and that broken Mount-damage-threshold? and that GOD DAMNE movement interupting ledges every where (to get every weapon a Mounting opportunity)? And multy layerd areas?
Mounting and verticality are the signitur gimmicks from 4th Gen…

  3. I lost contact with MH after it went Wii, last playing one of the PSP Freedom Unite titles until Wold/Rise. Bought MHGU to try and reconnect, thinking it was the most recent/best way.

If GU is missing that giant serpent, among others, then I'm rather saddened to hear such. I would love to dive into a updated/remastered 4U. But if I change one thing: death to Paintball …

  4. I started with Rise, went back to Generations last year and now that we wouldn't be able to buy it from the 3Ds Eshop anymore, I got 4U just a few days ago, and I have to say that I agree with you.

I mean, Rise is the best out of the three in overall gameplay, Generations and GenU are the best in game mechanics (I miss the hunting styles everytime I play other games) but overall, 4U is my favorite one despite the fact I just beat Shagaru Magala yesterday, I have a lot yet to play before completing the game.

  5. I played the old games after MHWorld and MH4U was easily the best in the series, it just does so much well and was such a magical adventure.

Too many people act like MHGU is the best but it simply has the most monsters and a couple good fights in its late game but it lacks so much of that charm that the other games have.

  6. Me with a physical copy of 4u 😀

I first played the 3u demo and sort of bounced off it, and then I got my hands on the 4U demo and obsessively played it – excitedly telling my Dad about the monsters I fought and how fun they were, only for him to buy the full game for me a week later. Being the first time I got a gift outside of my birthday, I was thrilled and never put it down for a week straight. I remember spending 40min hunting black gravios with the rathalos cb due to not knowing how elemental resistance worked.

  7. calling my first ever Monster Hunter game the best? 4 Ultimate may be my favourite, but it's a stretch to call it the best, even if it happens to be 100% fact; although it's flattering.

i hope Capcom makes a Switch port. it's the least they could do.
a remaster is a bit of a stretch… but then again we have Dark Souls Remastered (slightly improved graphics on the same engine is the only difference i could make out, as someone who hasn't played a Soulsborne game); so a 4 Ultimate remaster doesn't sound that farfetched.

considering the flaws you've pointed out, hopefully said port/remaster will feature some QOL (quality of life) features and all Event Quests available (i miss the Star Knight Sword, and G-rank Fatalis was needed).

i remember receiving this game for my 14th birthday back in 2015.
    nostalgic sigh … i miss 4 Ultimate.

  8. MH4U is a great game, sure, but I just can’t go back to the clunky controls, multiplayer scaling, and stiff movement. MH4U definitely deserves respect and it was my introduction to the series, but to me the improvements that came with 5th Gen are nonnegotiable.
