The Top 25 Film of 1984 that make it LEGENDARY and maybe, the BEST year in movie history! This is the first in a series of Epic Movie Year Rankings that will all lead up to a final ranking to find the #1 Year ALL TIME, In Movie History! Pop that tape in, I got you, let's go do this! #physicalmedia #top10 #movies #4k #dvd #Top25 #rankings
Let's go do this!!
I think 1994 would get my vote overall but 1999, 1984, 1982, 1976 and 1975 would be in the debate.
Seen OG in theatre that has been since demolished got the tape soon after for 80$ my friend got same tape for a lot less weeks later
Only 1 special effects company
There's waay better films that year. 1984 was a great film
Loving the channel! I’d would give Romancing the Stone and Purple Rain honorable mention
Haha I’ve watched a ton of movies and still haven’t seen Firestarter. I never got into Dune either, it had a cult following but that’s it. Night of the comet is great. I missed out on those Conan box sets
Police academy was so good they gave us a cartoon. Friday the 13th good stuff!
Haha the naughty Pg movies there were a few. All my kids grew up on neverending story temple of doom is iconic. 80s Eddie Murphy could do no wrong.
My wife and kid hate the Gremlins they both have nightmares, I have to watch it every year by myself it’s my favorite Christmas tradition.
Films I saw at the theater in 1984: Amadeus, The Natural, Indy, Gremlins, Friday 13th: Final Chapter, Terminator, Ghostbusters. I am surprised Amadeus did not make your list. Amadeus is #2 on my all time favorite list. Friday 13th: Final Chapter IMO is the 2nd best of the franchise after the first film. The heroine was excellent. Final chapter also had a great promo. The film was released on Friday the 13th, the tagline in the promo was "Friday April 13th will be Jason's unlucky day". I think "Final Chapter" was supposed to be the last film but it was successful so the franchise continued. As for years I enjoy. The 90s is my favorite decade for film. I like the look of the films in the 90s, I have read a different film stock was used in the 90s. I would like to see best lists for 1995, 1997, 1999.
OK let me stop you right there. 😄 I JUST bought Firestarter on Blu-ray like two weeks ago after many years of being occasionally curious about it. (It was buy one, get one free, so Crazy Stupid Love came home too.)
I still haven’t seen it, so I’m gonna come back to this video after watching it. Don’t want to hear any opinions yet. Don’t have high expectations, but it really seems like it might be a fun, if slightly dark little flick. And if this is at 25, yeah… 1984 might take it. Though ‘85 might be close… or maybe I’m thinking music releases, heh.
Great list! Have all but 2 on UHD on your list. Wish I got to see these films when they came out to theaters, I was born that year! So many things came out that year, like the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles comic, in which I'm a proud owner to have in my collection of American pop culture!
1985 – Back to the Future, The Re-animator, Day of the Dead, Return of the Living Dead, Police Story, Rocky 4, Silverado, Rambo First Blood Part 2, The Goonies, The Breakfast Club
How is Once Upon a Time in America not on this list? It should really be in the top 5, but to not even have in the top 25 disqualifies the entire video.
1989>1984
1984: This Is Spinal Tap, Against All Odds, Repo Man, Splash, Romancing the Stone, Bachelor Party, The Never Ending Story, Purple Rain, Children of the Corn, The Philadelphia Experiment, Cloak and Dagger, Dreamscape, A Soldier's Story (Early Denzel), All Of Me, Body Double, Paris Texas, Missing In Action, A Christmas Story, Starman, Johnny Dangerously, and Breakin' 2: Electric Boogaloo
yea 1994 & 1999 are definitely top years for me! 2004 too… You kinda just gave me an idea for a video actually 🤔different than yours of course lol
if 1984 is not your favorite year, don't worry, there are at least 9 more Legendary years to come in this video series before the final video where I give my rankings of the Top 10 Years in Movie History!!
Hands down 2024 😂
Romancing the Stone, Blame It on Rio, This Is Spinal Tap, The Bounty, The Natural, Purple Rain, The Philadelphia Experiment, Amadeus, and more . . .
For sure the best year was 1976- Rocky, Network, All the Presidents Men, Taxi Driver, The Outlaw Josey Wales, Marathon Man Logans Run, The Eagle Has Landed, The Enforcer for example.
1999 was a great year.
The Terminator, Gremlins, Dune, The Search For Spock, A Nightmare on Elm Street, Top Secret, Beverly Hills Cop, The Last Starfighter, The Karate Kid, Missing in Action, Red Dawn, Romancing the Stone. Damn fine movies in 1984…..
And thriller to boot – awesome year for music and theatre
The first Conan is epic as Arnold has great allies. Ghostbusters is just a magnificent horror comedy. The Last Starfighter should have started a franchise. I wrote a Ghoulies short story on Wattpad entitled: Ghoulies: The Shadow Creed.
Great list! I still haven't seen night of the comet, gonna have to get around to it. I was 4 in 1984 and remember seeing Ghostbusters at the theatre. That librarian transformation hooked me. "I got a plan. Get her!!!"
I have to go with 1974 when Zardoz came out
1984 was a great year for movies. I submit 89 as even better. As someone who was 13 in 1984, I must admit many of these films feel like nostalgia picks more than "great", but I get it.
However, Brian De Palma's BODY DOUBLE is a film that was highly controversial and received mixed reviews at the time, but has appreciated over the years and is one of my favorite films of all time.
My top 10….
10-Temple of Doom
9-Karate Kid
8-Search for Spock
7-Nighmare on Elm Street
6-Beverly Hills Cop
5-This is Spinal Tap
4-Once Upon A Time in America
3-The Killing Fields
2-Terminator
1-The Natural
Some great films in 1984, seen a lot of the films you mention (such as Conan, Gremlins, Nightmare etc) though personally my favourite year has to be 1971 – guess everyone will have their favourite years for movies, music etc
Paris, Texas
Top Secret
This is Spinal Tap
Nausicaa
Blood Simple
Favourite year: 2001
I left high school in 1984, and lost my virginity on New Year's Eve! So yeah, got lots of happy memories from then.
1939!…also, Bachelor Party is the greatest sex 1980's comedy ever IMHO!
Ghoulies-I wasn't a big fan of. maybe the satanic crap that just turn me off a bit.
Dune is movie that is not for every.
the last starfighter is a wonderful movie and was the last movie Robert Preston appeared in.
Gremlins is a wild ride horror and choas.
The Natural is a fine movie.
Conan the destroyer. ok movie but man, that deal you got for both conan movies is a freaking steal man.
Police Academy is by far the best of the whole series.
ST: III search for Spock is a good trek film.
Temple Of Doom and boy that movie really gave some people serious concern about pushing PG ratings limits. it also spark a change in the rating system that year with Red Dawn being the first movie to be PG-13
Dreamscape is wickedly wild.
Karate Kid is a fantastic film.
This Is Spinal Tap. this one goes to 11
Starman is slow but a good movie.
Cannonball Run II is a fun sequel but the original is better.
Runaway. what not to like about Geme Simmons from Kiss giving Tom Sellick a bad day.
The Philadelphia Experiment sadly underrated
Johnny Dangerously is fun and goofy.
Greystoke is an interesting take on Tarzan. what not to like when you have the actor who later played an immortal as Tarzan?
Teachers is a very underrated movie
Ice Pirates, Cloak and Dagger, Trancers, Missing In Action, Ninja III, Tank, The Wild Life, and so on. 1984 was a crazy year for movies.
I would remove several of your picks, and replace them with Amadeus, Johnny Dangerously, This is Spinal Tap, Streets of Fire, Repo Man, Swing Shift, Bachelor Party, Tank
