Who Are The Best Fighting Game Monsters – Thorgiween

We’ve talked about Darkstalkers each Halloween for the past two years. Well this year I’m asking, did Darkstalkers really have the best fighting game monsters?

  1. I loved the show but to be honest you are my favorite retrospective guy on YouTube no one does it better Your videos on king of fighters were long indepth and informative although I loved this I'm personally 100 percent behind your retrospectives they are an absolute joy hate see that go away for pursuit of something else but in the end your choice if you prefer to go this new direction I support it Aswell and I'll watch it thanks for everything you boo 👻

  2. I'd categorize zombies and skeletons separately. Skeletons are unavoidably magical, since there has to be some kind of animating force keeping all of the bones together. Zombies lean heavily into the presumption that they still ambulate on the remaining strength of their rotting muscles and tendons, which is why they famously stagger around and such. Skeletons are typically able to snap themselves back together if the bones get separated because there is no singular locus of life — they're animated externally. I also usually picture zombies as being more primal and hungry — motivated by only the animal portions of the brain — and skeletons are more mischievous and intentional. Plus, they can play their ribs like a xylophone without exception.

  3. In Japanese 9 or Ku, means suffering and is considered an unlucky or cursed number so Hisako and Zappa having 9 points is fitting. 4 or shi means death, so Bishamon getting 4 is fitting.

  4. Much as I love Zappa, Hisako earned her place over him for the ghost slot.

Also, other games full of monsters and creepy creatures, right off the bat I thought of Terrordrome. There was even some footage of that one in this video. Still technically under development, but it's a great Halloween/Horror themed fighting game. Both versions. ;p

  5. do top 10/20 snk gals and top 10 capcom protagonist next for that new style.

love the darkstalkers the most(morrigan,lilith,q-bee,jon talbain,b.b hood, hsien ko,victor, jedah, lord raptor, pyron) but also like rachel(favorite bb character alongside nine, makoto and litchi/taokaka),tessa(love her exploring other worlds in the vs. games like with morrigan and her kooky attacks using her cats, especially the technology like a robot and rocket fitting her as a sorceologist.:3) & especially squiggly(really quickly loved her as my favorite skullgirls character she's adorable.).

  6. Hsien Ko could have fit the vampire or Zombie roll due to her being a jiangshi, so it's a shame she didn't make the list.. But great video! I'm really happy Tessa got some love here too. XD

  7. I actually do want to see this become a regular series. However, I have a new idea of my own…

What if we take Peacock from Skullgirls, and use her classic cartoon-based motif to create new characters for other fighting games?

Heck, we can even use Darkstalkers to provide the easiest example of what would happen, given what it was truly inspired by. Seriously, a Capcom game based on horror movie monsters, and its aesthetic is inspired by the stuff kids used to watch on Saturday Mornings in the 60s and 70s.

  8. a couple of other interesting points about squigly's design is how her covered eye is actually not there and it's just an empty socket, and I believe that the hole leviathan is going through in her head is where swuigly was shot and killed by black Dahlia. Her forward walk while charging one of her stances is also similar to that of a jiangshi which is another variant of a zombie/vampire which is another neat detail.

also I know she doesn't really fit under any category here, but I think ABA from +r does a really good job of being a horror themed character in a FG. from her design with her blood soaked bandages and the key shoved through her head. to her gameplay which matches that fear a slow slasher villain instills. constantly slowly approaching but if you aren't careful she will get in and become a massive threat. Also her moroha mode turning her key ace Paracelsus to a more demonic form making her stronger in every way possible but slowly draining her Heath. and even her theme being more haunting sounding in the intro but transitioning into heavy guitar shredding. I think she could be a very cool character to talk about in a list of something like homunculus (or maybe Frankenstein like monsters)

  9. Hey Thorgi, love your videos. I got an idea for your next build a game roster video. Have you considered Kingdom Hearts?? That franchise has alot of characters you could use. What do you think??

  10. Demitri despite being the Ryu of the series has always felt like one of lesser popular characters it probably doesn’t help that he’s only in one of the cross over games while morrigan is in all of them

Well the instant I saw this man my bisexuality kicked in, and now I want to buy Guilty Gear. Needless to say, but if this man came up to me at a party I'd let him su-…um… I'd let him bi-…uhh… I'd let him take me out.

  12. Really makes me wish Killer Instinct had been multi-platform.
For what it's worth, Zombie Liu Kang is just his reanimated corpse. His Soul is trying to reclaim it's body after being released from Shang Tsung in Deception.

  13. Love and appreciate all the hard work and research you put in these videos. Please make more and make it series!

Like this video, can you also talk about the many different fighting styles (ex: boxing, wrestling, ninjitsu, JKD (Bruce Lee inspired fighting-style)) and tell us who stands out to you in fighting games. Would love to hear your opinion!

  14. Honorable mentions for fighting game vampires: Arcueid and Roa from Melty Blood. Yeah their designs definitely scream "anime vampire" more than classic vampire, but Melty Blood being based on a visual novel about vampires and a group of people able to kill them means I think they deserve a mention.

  15. It's hard to top Talbain when it comes to werewolf fighters, but Valkenheim does have his merits.

That being said, I really wish if Capcom ever gets serious in reviving Darkstalkers, they let ArcSys work with them.

  16. Homunculi would be a good category but I only say that because ABA from guilty gear is one of my favorite characters. But stuff like this would be cool. Probably not politically correct, but like racial representation would be cool. Or something more stylistic rather than what sugar punch is doing with Bruce Lee look alikes and different fighting styles like wrestling and muy tai. I like how stylistic and varied this is compared to those other videos. Like a video just about birds in games would be dope. Either playing as one or utilizing an actual bird or bird powers

  17. let me offer you a few categories if you ever decided to do this again 1 human monsters think your serial killers and your mad scientists basically humans who are undistinguishable from monsters because of how evil they are or act more like a beast than human afterall sometimes the scariest monsters are humans themselves 2 aliens kind of self explanatory you could count extra-dimensional beings as aliens if you need to 3 scientific monstrositys monsters created from science think cell from Dragon Ball z or Mr Hyde from Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde or even the Hulk 4 demons or demon like creatures also pretty self-explanatory anything from hell or a hell like dimension 5 and finally grim reapers/shishigami
