In the early hours of August 19th 1919, a handful of small British torpedo boats snuck into Kronstadt, the most heavily defended naval base in the world. They launched a daring attack on the Russian Baltic Fleet inside its own harbour, determined to cripple Bolshevik sea power and help to secure the independence of the Baltic States.

When torpedoes and torpedo boats were developed, particularly by the Japanese, navies had to develop measures to protect their capital ships from this asymmetric threat. The name "destroyer" is based around the role of destroying small torpedo boats.
What's a "Shed Yule"?
Когда готовите видео неплохо было бы уточнить как правильно пишутся и произносятся русские имена и названия. Я говорю про "Андрея Первозванного". Вы пропустили в его имени букву "в".
@historigraph 'Terrioki' is supposed to be written 'Terijoki'
https://fi.wikipedia.org/wiki/Terijoki article is in finnish, but it has the map pointing at the same place.
Otherwise interesting video thank you. cheers
11:03 mandatory torpedo beats!
My great grandmother was a field nurse in WWI.
The Whites were not just “counter-revolutionary”, as per Wikipedia they were a big-tent movement against Lenin and the Bolsheviks “from the republican-minded liberals and Kerenskyite social-democrats on the left through monarchists and supporters of a united multinational Russia to the ultra-nationalist Black Hundreds on the right.”
Never heard of it. But, since a state of War didn't exist between Britain and Russia in 1919, the attack was a criminal offense; not a military action.
Huh, this explains the Balitc Fleet's fear of torpedo boats
That was a Ukrainian debacle and they where liquidated
2:59
Written as Terijoki, not Terrioki. I am not aware of a swedish name to the place, but I have not done much research. It wouldn't be that for sure.

11:11 it's <<andrei pervozvanny>>. and petropavlovsk(Marat) sank at that raid once. but restored and sank again at ww2 but came back to port again. and it's not repaired at this time.
Excellent account of a naval engagement previously unknown to me. Thank you very much.
that segway into the sponsor could have been done differently at the beginning, thought it was scummy using him for a sponsor at first until you went into detail about him honoring him.
2:52 It's Terijoki not Terrioki.
Known nowadays as Zelenogorsk.
so the British Empire was opposing imperialism.
11:03 😂😂
Well this has earned a subscription. Brilliant
Imagine being the Russian ships in that harbour, thinking your safe. They must have been quite surprised when the british appeared.
brave men . great vid thanks .
surprised to hear about bolshevism… considering now those who aimed to destroy it are now supporting it as the European Union tries to bring back their Soviet Union out of Ukraine again, just like what happened 100 years ago…
I remember reading a book that described Admiral Cowan as "a ferocious dwarf who loved war so much he cried when the armistice was signed".
Never understimate a torpedo speedboat!!
Brilliant video, proper history and no fluff
I believe three mouths ago I said the Ukrainian navy was taking notes on this attack. Welp they did, and I called it.
