The scary thing? In any legal stop (even if it's only having an air freshener on your mirror), they can make you get out of the car. Even if it is only pretextual. Worse? Because of qualified immunity, they can plead ignorance that Penn v Mimms does allow them to pull you out of the car because of "officer" safety. The truth? The actual case requires RAS that you are armed or dangerous.
But the ingrained practice of doing it, they feel free to order you out, and because of the immunity, even if you call them on it in court, the judge will undoubtedly give the cop a pass.
