  1. I was gonna get that $290 mobo/cpu combo from newegg to upgrade my son's 10th gen i3 build but was able to snag an i9 10900kf from ebay for $135. I also got got an Asus AP201 case for him for $50 on Facebook Marketplace. About to start the build as I'm watching this, wish me luck.

  2. stating weird things, amd7800x3d, asus prime 670, rtx 4080 and if i restart (the windows option) it restarts with 4gb memory instead of 32gb 5600mhx fury. if i shutdown it loads the right amount. guessing bios update but i got the latest when i ordered the new cpu.

  3. For am5 upgrade i went with msi pro b650m-p board for around 130 euros, has two m.2 slots that are 4.0 that's fast enough for pc imo. Upgrading from 10400f to 7800x3d should be decent jump in performance i guess…

  4. Is the R9-5900X a better CPU than the newer 5800X3D? I'm wondering whether it's worth trying to stretch more life out of the AM4 board I have. In the main I play X-Plane-12 and FS 2020 at 3440×1440.. I have 64G of RAM and an 3090t TI…

  5. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I'm of the opinion that computers should not be seen nor heard. Put them in a black box without any windows, and stick them under the desk. (I like to use a milk crate to keep them off the floor.)

I know Paul and his audience turn computers into show pieces. First you have to decide what goes on display in the window, and what goes in the hidden chamber. Now in the age of rear mounted motherboard connectors, we have to reevaluate what goes "in front of the camera" and what stays backstage.
Which components do you find beautiful, and worthy of being on display?
Which components are so ugly they need to out of sight?

  6. The CPU is the heart of ever system and the only reason anyone needs a new PC. 8 cores are barely hanging on to play top end games. I just parted ways with my 8 core 8 thread (FX 8350) but it got me from 2012 – 2023 because there are games that it will not play (even a couple of the free ones from Epic Games). Save up your money and get a 16 core 32 thread so the only thing you will need to replace for the next 10 years should be the PSU and GPUs… unless you like rebuilding your core components (CPU, MB, RAM) every 2 years.

  7. How's the DIY home surveillance system holding up? Last major update was back before covid. Any new hurdles you had to overcome or issues using commodity hardware for 24/7 operation? Love the home tech videos and here's to a good 20204 🍻

  8. Question. Currently Microcenter has: 5800x3d for 279.99 and the 5700x3d for 169.99. I'm looking to upgrade my 5800x so I can swap out my sons 3600x. I'm also swapping my rtx 3600 for either a 4700super or a 7800 xt. Thoughts?

  9. @7:17 If your CMOS battery on the motherboard is dead, ALL settings go back to factory default, not just the XMP enablement gets eventually disabled. And more often than not, even the BIOS will complain about that (WARNING BIOS SETTINGS HAVE BEEN RESET TO FACTORY DEFAULT). And usually the boot is halt until you press a key to acknowledge this situation. So its pretty hard not to notice this thing, therefore very unlikely that this affects Richard.

  10. In an LTT AMD tech upgrade video it was mentioned they could use the motherboard HDMI port without any issues since both the dedicated and integrated GPU is RDNA 2 (or above) so they can pass through each other without any performance issues.
The only thing I can find is AMD advantage for laptops but nothing about desktop being able to use them like that.
I dunno if you have tested that or something.

  11. Hey Paul, I love seeing your probings. I've noticed a lot of your videos lately are sponsored by your own store rather than a third-party sponsor. What is the reason for this? Is the store doing very well? Are sponsors being stingy? Have the nearly 100 public probings scared away would-be sponsors? Cheers!
