What New Army Cadets Go Through During The First Six Weeks At West Point | Boot Camp

Before starting the academic year, incoming freshmen at the United States Military Academy in West Point, New York, must participate in a six-week basic training program that teaches military skills like rifle marksmanship, rappelling, navigation, and properly donning protective gear like gas masks.

At the end of training, cadets compete in “The Crucible,” a high-intensity final test that cadets must complete before marching 12 miles back to the main West Point campus, where they will begin their academic year. Insider followed these new cadets throughout the summer to see what all they learn before beginning their school year at the prestigious military academy.

  1. As a delegated member of the young men and a spokesperson for the early 20’s range I’m announcing that we are still not joining in the masses, best of look to your future recruitment

  2. West Point Graduates are a joke. Barely get respect from the enlisted. They come in high and mighty just for a E-4 with two combat deployments out them in their place. Being a paper pusher as they are only good for. If the Army wants good leadership. Officers need to do a mandatory 2 years as a enlisted soldier first. To actually know what lower enlisted has to go through.

  3. As far as I can tell, the go-to solution for weathering this downturn and high expansion is momentary exchanging, rather than long haul exchanging; most people utilizing these methods are netting a lot of gains; sure, the dangers are higher, but isn't the ongoing business sector similarly as risky?

  4. To those that are unaware: This is Officer training. THIS IS NOT boot camp for enlisted. And while there might be many similarities, they are quite different. For one, they are much kinder to cadets than they are privates.

  5. Don’t compare bootcamp with the trainings these cadets do, their instructors are not drill sergeants, but rather upper class men/ officers. The young officers are there to study academics and not in a hurry to be sent to the frontline. They still have to endure 4 more years of academic pressure plus military pressure so they aren’t taking it easy.

  6. This is more of the West Point initiation process than full on basic combat training. Important to remember that after they graduate WP they will still attend OCS and in depth training for their assigned branches like any other officer candidate.

  7. Watching this angers me. Aint no need for Enlisted to be taught this same exact shit but with yelling, disrespectful name calling, excessive strictness, “discipline” and stress inducing tactics. Teach both the same or don’t teach at all. A big reason why the Army’s recruitment and retainment numbers are so poor
