  1. 9:30 I totally understand. Anyone knows Cowboy Bebop? Netflix RUINED it…So I wasn’t supper excited about tlou adaptation as well… didn’t want to be disappointed again. You’re not alone. :/
But it turns out the show is great. Crying and screaming (internally) throughout the episode.

  2. Meh.
I liked the fact they went deeper into the prelude. Yet, I wish it would have lasted the whole first episode. There was so much potential here.
I feel like everything is being rushed. I know this can’t last like 25 epiodes and I suppose it doesn’t have the largest budget on earth but still..
Also Tess and Ellie look so much different than their video games counterparts that I feels too strange. Tess especially.
Anyway. I’d rate episode 1 6/10 and I’m sure it can only go up from there.

  3. I thought the first episode was pretty darn good and I am really excited for the rest of the series. The only thing I thought is that the voice acting and performances from Troy Baker, Ashley Johnson, and everyone in the game was so good that to me it will make the show almost seem like a "knock off" no matter how good it is. That reflects more on me than the show though lol

  4. I loved the ep so much. The only change I didn't like is the spores being gone but I get it. I think Joel wanting to find Tommy will make it be more meaningful when he decides to leave to head to the collage.

I think it being the same guy was to show that Joel doesn't care if he knows someone. He will kill them no matter what.

  5. I really didn't like the changes they made in the confrontation with the soldier in the end of the episode. Not just for the sake of its deviation from the game, but because of the somehow poor and strange execution of the scene. First of all, it's really strange, that they don't see the soldier (they are in dark and his flashlight is on!) and they are actually facing toward him for a moment. Second of all, and more importantly, they totally miss their chance to catch him surprised while he is peeing and take care of him. This happens again after Ellie stabs him – Joel just stares at the situation and doesn't do anything! Did they change the portrayal of Joel from that coldblooded murderer as Ant mentions? So that he has hesitations to kill even though doing that can lead to killing him? Joel is supposed to be a Beast – otherwise his arc with Ellie wont work with such an impact.
I really didn't get that scene and after a perfect expository epizode, I ended with slightly dissapointing feeling. (The flashback felt also kinda cheap and the fact that Ellie is infected was supressed due to Joels rage.)

  6. Looking forward to your "reviews" . I been stung by adaptations too but its important to remember that a bad adaptation does not in any way alter the original material. Saying that however when I reread Game of Thrones all I could picture in my head were the actors from the show, not bad but also not like the books. Last of Us is my favourite game and the show really does capture what made the game so good for me so far. Its actually fun to see what they added and took away and I can also appreciate the needs of TV over game story telling. I would recommend the HBO podcast about the show as it explains a lot of the decision making process they went through. I been a long time viewer and sometime subscriber on Twitch to your channel and really enjoy your streams and the insight you provide to the game. Keep on keeping on more power to you.

  7. I’m curious what will come out of all this. First episode wasn’t bad, but there was always a feeling that I’m watching a fan remake. A very good one, but the one where creators just remade the game cutscenes and called it a “tv show”. It’s not the different actors that are turning me off, it’s this feeling that I’m watching a “b rated content”. The game is so good because it’s a game. It was designed around all of those interactive mechanics and it works because of them. Cinematography has it’s own tools and tricks to affect the viewer. I don’t think and I don’t feel, watching this show, that it is enough to film with new actors all the old cutscenes, add a few more and expect it to have the same effect on you that the game did. It has to be, I think, completely reworked and and filmed as an original material with some reference to the game by some very talented director, who, in a movie setting, will find a way to affect you in the same way that the game did. Otherwise it will be nothing more than a useless fan-service. 🙁

  8. The first time i’ve played The Last Of Us (Remastered) was back in 2014. My cousin owns a PlayStation 4, and every night we played The Last Of Us, also the DLC. We really admired the game, especially the story between Joel and Ellie. Even though we know what’s gonna happen in every cut scenes, it still hit us, hard. The bond that my cousin and I made because of this game is really amazing and irreplaceable.

Fast forward in 2020, my cousin and I don’t see each other because of COVID restrictions and also because he has other priorities. And we got really happy and hyped when The Last Of Us Part II got release, especially for me because my birthday is June 20, right after the release of Part II. Anyway, my cousin played Part II, he told me that he really loved it! that I should play it as well, and tell him what I think about the game. But I don’t own any PlayStation, so instead I watched Anthony Caliber’s playthrough of Part II, and yeah, I freakin’ loved it, so so much!! It’s not perfect and I get the criticisms over the game. But the original game was not perfect as well, I mean it has it flaws. But we loved it because of the characters and the story itself.

Today, I still don’t own a PlayStation, and I still watch some Youtubers blind playthrough of Part I and II. Even Anthony’s speedruns of the game. I know what y’all gonna say. That I should not watched someone else’s playthrough (of Part II) over YT. I know. But seeing people’s reaction in the game, that scene, and the story of the game itself. Just thinking about it makes me cry. I don’t know when I will be able to play The Last Of Us Part II. But knowing Joel, Ellie, Tommy, Maria, Abby, Lev, Owen and others. Their journeys, what keeps them going, and their reasons why they did such things, over hate or love.

As for the HBO series, for me, it is a perfect video game adaptation. Knowing when to stick the source material, when it works, and knowing when to make changes to elevate the source material. Can’t wait for Episode 2!

  9. tommy and joel are supposed to be not speaking and not seen each other for ages, everyone saying its fine that they changed the robert plot but its guna completely change the end of the show, its dumb, they need to change as little as humanly possible or by the last episode its guna be completely off.

  10. I loved when they played the Factions Menu music, when Joel was drinking and planning on his journey outside the wall to find Tommy, I was just like, Fuck Yes This Is The Hype Track Right Here, Joel building his load out , assigning skill points , putting a silencer on his burst rifle.. JK.. joel is obviously a covert assault rifle sweat.. getting ready to deploy in a Survivor Match Solo Dolo.. I got chills in that scene for real..

  11. I think the Sarah scene could've been better with more closeups of Sarah in his arms while he cradles her. also I thought troy's voice acting had a bit more emotion. but still it was good, game was a lil better to me tho

  12. Just watched EP1 and the overall reception is good. They nicely expanded on some aspects of the source material and cut short on others. But If I wanted the story told like the game I could just watch a cutscene movie 🙂 Of course the soundtrack is fire. Some notes/ nitpicking:
    – The opening was great, only thing I didnt like is the weird scenes while they drive Tommys truck, its shot on a jig which makes the movements feel unnaturaly.
    – Tommy suddenly looking for his brother 20 years after the outbreak as his main goal to get to Wyoming seems strange. Ellie should be the main reason they leave Boston, Tommy comes into play afterwards
    – Roberts death and Marlene handing over Ellie in one scene is crushed together and therefore it lacks quality
    – Outside the wall running into just one soldier and Ellie being confronted with the positive test result is also less dramatic than ingame
They have an entire season to fill, why rush the biggest plot points so much?
