The Royal Navy has ships deployed around the globe every day of the year, and 2024 is going to be no different.
With tensions in the Red Sea, deployments to the Indo-Pacific and Russian ships regularly needing to be shadowed, the Royal Navy needs to be at the top of its game.
But what is the strength of the service?

Not enough to defend these shores from the invading hordes.
This is unbelievable how much the Royal Navy has shrunk over the decades, and yet they still want more and more cuts.
We've barely got a navy anymore. With all the tensions going on in the world, we should be ramping up ship production, not looking for ways to cut the navy further!
When the US said the British Armed Forces are no longer a top level fighting force, I was quite offended by that statement, but in hindsight, they're right. As much as it pains me to say it.
Probably shouldn't have spent all our money on Brexit.
Dreadful, and would have been a whole lot worse if that idiot dodgy Dave Cameron got his way. Its an isult making him a lord
I’m sorry but guys our gdp sucks – average household makes less than £50k a year. Of course military is gonna decrease especially the navy – the British empire had the cash flow to produce and maintain a navy, now we can’t even police our borders lol.
where are the ships keeping immigrants of the sores ? getting in to the country!
The uk was defined by its sea power after all it is an island. If they are ever to rise again that is a good start.
In Short.. It Doesn't. Just about the same as everything in the UK since the Torys
The politicians should start investing a lot more money in our armed forces before its to late instead of sinking tons of money in the already sunk NHS. Third world …
Seeing as things are starting to kick off in the Red Sea will one of our carriers be sent there or are they going to sit in port looking pretty.
Didn’t know we had any
Why is the Isle of Man missing from your Map?
Let’s face it they aren’t defending us anymore, the country has been sold and given away, there’s nothing left to defend with our culture and great history repressed. A self hating blue haired perverted generation will be our last, existing purely to facilitate the hand over to blacks and Muslims. Shame on us for our cowardice
A lot of people in these comments complaining about personnel and vessel numbers, but who of those commenters would actually want to join the RN tomorrow? Is it an attractive job in 2024?
Nil
Wow it is absolutely tiny. We are completely unprepared for the upcoming and more dangerous times we face. Well done mr Cameron and Mr Osbourne.
Not enough ships … we need to cut foreign aid and worry about ourselves
In other words the Royal Navy surface fleet can do a total of nothing meaningful. 17 ships of the line total? Ekkk
Viva UK!
Still dozens country had much strong navy than british
Royal Navy does not have enough ships to even defend the UK. i.e. Your River-class offshore patrol vessel (single ship defending Falklands) is really only performing coast guard duties and is less armed than coast guard ships of many countries outside of Europe.
We need more ships, the government needs to pull their fingers out and on with doing the job they are paid for. They are totally incompetent.
